Basement Waterproofing & Pump System Installation – Stourbridge, West Midlands Case Study
Project Overview
This project involved a full basement waterproofing solution at a Victorian terrace property in Stourbridge, where the basement had been experiencing ongoing flooding. The client contacted us due to persistent water ingress causing damp conditions, odours and an unusable space. The objective was to prevent further flooding and create a dry, functional storage area.
The Issue
The basement was subject to regular water ingress, resulting in standing water and consistently damp conditions. This made the space unusable and contributed to poor air quality and moisture issues within the property. As the structure is below ground, a system was required that could manage water ingress rather than simply resist it.
Our Approach
Following a full assessment, we installed a Type C cavity drainage system to safely manage and remove incoming water. Ground excavation was carried out to allow installation of a pumping station. A perimeter drainage channel (aqua channel) was fitted to collect water from around the internal walls.
A cavity drainage membrane (CDM) was installed to wall bases, forming an upstand detail that directs moisture into the drainage system. Water is channelled into the pumping chamber and discharged externally away from the property.
For long‑term reliability, the system includes:
• Primary pump and backup pump
• Battery‑backup alarm system for high water levels
Floor Construction & Finishing
Once drainage works were complete, the floor was levelled to create a suitable base. Closed‑cell insulation was installed, followed by a raised floor membrane to ensure separation from residual moisture. A tongue‑and‑groove flooring system was then fitted to create a solid, durable surface.
The Result
The basement has been transformed from a regularly flooding space into a dry, controlled environment. While a habitable conversion was not required, the area is now fully suitable for storage, with the risk of flooding effectively eliminated. The system provides a reliable, low‑maintenance solution offering long‑term protection and peace of mind.
