Did you know not all scaffolding is made of metal? ๐ฟ๐ผ
In places like Hong Kong, Macau, and across much of Asia, scaffolders still use bamboo โ and have done for centuries. Itโs light, flexible, and incredibly strong, often referred to as โnatureโs steel.โ
Entire skyscrapers, theatres, and temporary structures have been built using nothing but bamboo poles, nylon ties, and highly skilled craftsmanship.
As Chan Yuk-Kwong of Wah Bo Engineering explains:

The bamboo used is typically three to five years old, carefully selected for its strength and flexibility โ properties that can rival steel on a weight-for-weight basis.
Itโs widely favoured for being lightweight, cost-effective, and renewable. However, it does have its limitations, particularly in strong winds, and it requires careful handling to prevent issues such as rot or fire.
Not something we see much of here in Herefordโฆbut after yesterday, we thought weโd clear things up ๐
