Worktops at David Williams

Today we were given a behind-the-scenes look at David Williams Marble, seeing first-hand the process of transforming full quartz slabs into finished worktops and splashbacks.

While machinery is used, their approach remains refreshingly traditional compared with many companies that now rely on water-jet cutting. They work with hand-made templates, machinery operated directly by skilled staff, and edges finished by eye rather than depending solely on automation.

It is clear that the team take great pride in their craft and go to exceptional lengths to ensure every detail is perfect.

All being well, part of the worktops will be installed on Thursday. The remaining section will follow once the necessary plastering has been completed.

🟦🟩 Colour Reveal 🟩🟦

After much deliberation—and a little family democracy—we’ve settled on “Tea with Florence” (No. 310) by Little Greene. What a transformation!

The kitchen already feels brighter thanks to the new lighting, so we decided to inject a playful pop of colour into the cabinets. It’s amazing how a little shade can completely lift a space.

Next up: flooring from Carpet Design and Flooring and sleek countertops from David Williams Quartz. A few finishing touches remain, but we’re well on our way to creating a truly stunning kitchen.

We’ve worked hard over the past few days and evenings to prepare the kitchen for cheshiresprayingspecialists.

All cabinets and wall units have now been fitted, and everything has been thoroughly cleaned down — as you know, dust from ongoing work can be a real issue.

Kitchen Renovation – Progress Update

We initially felt we were making good progress, with Carl from C.A.B. Electrical attending site to install the new wiring for the induction hob and ovens.

However, once we began lifting the floorboards in preparation for new screed and flooring, plans changed. During this process, we discovered several floor joists showing early signs of rot, caused by inadequate preparation at the time the extension was originally built.

As a result, the scheduled plumbing works were delayed. All affected joists were treated and reinforced where possible, after which the necessary plumbing work was completed. The new flooring was then laid back in place, ready for the next stage of the renovation.

A quick note on today’s oven installation 🔧

With the new ovens, a certain amount of trial and error was required during fitting. This was done deliberately to ensure correct alignment and, most importantly, that the cupboard doors fitted properly and finished as they should.

Please be assured that when installing large electrical appliances, we always use a certified electrician to carry out the electrical work.

Taking the extra time and the right professional approach ensures a safe installation and a high-quality, long-lasting finish.

Today’s jobs were rescheduled, which means there is now an opportunity to focus on the kitchen.

Last night, the existing single fixed light was replaced with eight Luleco downlights, which have made a significant improvement to the overall brightness of the space.

The cooker was removed this morning in preparation for collecting the Howdens Joinery order, including the new base units.
