Project Spotlight:

We’re excited to share a recent project – Lister Hospital, completed in partnership with Health Spaces and Fleet Architects.

The project involved designing foundations and a first-floor deck to support a two-storey modular cardiovascular theatre built over an operational hospital access road, linking seamlessly with an existing hospital building.

As the Structural Engineering Consultants for the refurbishment of the AO Hotel on Old Steine, Brighton we were recently notified by The Bloomsbury Group of a significant discovery made during their structural investigations: a series of previously unmapped brick vaults hidden beneath the building.

Initial assessments suggest the vaults date back to the early 1800s, with construction details consistent with Georgian-era workmanship.

Working closely with the Temporary Works Coordinators and the Bloomsbury Group Team we have developed and implemented a strategy to provide temporary support to the vaults while a 25‑metre scaffold is erected around the building’s perimeter as part of the wider hotel refurbishment works.

Our Director, Ian Waddingham, visited the site to carry out an inspection of the vaults and review the temporary works in progress.

Last week, a number of colleagues from our London office volunteered at the Guildhall Christmas Market in support of the British Red Cross.

The team took on a variety of roles throughout the event, including Head Clicker, raffle duty, assisting members of the public, serving wine, and more. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, share stories, and support a brilliant cause.

Over December, the team at QED has been collecting gifts to donate to The Salvation Army as part of their Christmas Present Appeal, providing children of different ages with presents for Christmas.

We had a fantastic time at our QED Structures Christmas Social 2025 at Brighton Marina last Friday!

Colleagues joined us from across the UK and Europe as we celebrated not only the festive season but also our 20th work anniversary. The day at the Malmaison included a themed quiz, puzzle race, inspiring speeches, a wonderful three-course dinner and plenty of time to reconnect as a team.

The celebrations continued at a local VR golf pub, where we enjoyed AR darts, shuffleboard, beer pong and more.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the day so enjoyable.
