Just had solar fitted and noticed marks on the panels? Here is what they usually are.

Most of the time these are small smudges, sometimes the size of a palm print, because that is exactly what they are. We wear gloves, but if a glove rips or picks something up, handling the panels can leave an oily mark.

It does no harm at all, it is not visible from the ground, and the rain washes it off. I would not clean it, because you do not want to risk taking a coating off the glass. Leave it and enjoy the free electricity.

When is the best time to fit solar panels? From a homeowner's point of view, now.

Any time you get solar on the roof it starts producing, and it starts cutting or removing your bill depending on how many panels you have and how much you use. There is no perfect month to wait for.

The sooner it is on, the sooner it pays.

No room on the roof? This array in Shelton went in the paddock instead. The customer did not want a fixed frame concreted into the ground, so we used Renusol Console+ tubs. They sit on the grass, held down with ballast, and the panels clip on top. No digging, nothing permanent, and the whole thing can be lifted out later if the field is ever needed for something else. Good option if you have the space and a roof that faces the wrong way.

Is it worth fitting solar if you might move house? Yes.

Spending money on solar does not mean you lose it when you sell. Most people now understand solar saves a lot on electricity, so it adds value to the house. Even if the savings have not fully paid it off by the time you sell, it still has value, and some batteries can be taken with you or sold separately.

Against the value of a house, the cost is small and you tend to make it back.
