We were asked to replace tiles that were broken beneath the customers stove.

Upon looking at the installation before work commenced, we found seven faults, of which several were dangerous.

1. Timber too close to the flue.
2. Flue liner upside down.
3. Incorrect termination of the liner, in conjunction with being too far in to the cowl.
4. Chimney not swept prior to the liner being installed.
5. No CO Detector.
6. Closure plate not sealed correctly.
7. No flue data plate.

This was carried out by a local builder, and although not required in Scotland he was not HETAS registered.

With us being HETAS registered, our customers have a guarantee….

1. Fully trained and competent in the work we carry out.
2. Fully insured.
3. Subjected to having inspections by our local HETAS Inspector.

We have removed old hearth, removed all combustible materials, removed old flue liner, which has corroded through with pin prick holes due to it being fitted upside down, had our friends at Speyside Stoves to sweep the lum, installed new flue liner, installed new cowl, laid new hearth, fitted CO Detector, fitted DATA plate, refitted the stove and carried out all safety checks and issued certification.

The customer has said that in 4 years the stove has never worked so well.

Existing customer contacted us to quote for replacing their gas stove, as the repair bill was almost the cost of replacing it.

The customer elected for the Gazco Huntingdon 40.

During installation, it was found the flue liner had been sealed with expanding foam at the top and bottom, which had been trapping condensation within the chimney, leading to corrosion starting.

Also, there was a gas leak within the regulator, and the existing pipework was undersized, therefore the new stove would not work safely.

Flue liner, gas pipework, regulator and stove all replaced.

Last week we removed a multi fuel stove for a customer and installed a high efficiency gas stove.

Our customer decided to switch to gas over the solid fuel because of the ease of the remote control which gives full control over the heat.

Previous gas engineers had told them that they could not have a gas stove, and another’s quote was so high the customers would need to sell a kidney.

We thank them for their custom and putting their trust into us to deliver exactly what they wanted at a fair price.

The first couple of pictures show, that 1. The solid piece of flue was upside down and 2. The wrong cowl had been used evidently shown with the snout of tar at the chimney pot.
What isn’t seen, is that the adapter from single skin to flexi was a 4” to 5” adapter, whereas it should had been only a 5” adapter.
This means there was a restriction within the flue system which would affect the performance and efficiency of the stove.

Customer contacted us as they were struggling getting an engineer who would work on their Rangemaster Cooker due to another company disconnecting it for a gas leak.

We stripped the appliance down to allow access to all the gas taps.

Upon finding one leaking, we ordered a replacement and fitted it upon delivery.

Re- tested for any leaks, rebuilt the appliance…..

Now the customer is ‘Cooking With Gas’.
