Heritage Open Days returns this Friday, running from 11 to 20 September, and it is one of our favourite dates in the calendar.

Every September, thousands of historic places across England open their doors for free, giving everyone the chance to explore buildings
and stories usually kept behind closed doors. This year's theme, Everyday Histories, celebrates the ordinary working lives that shaped
our communities, something we see first-hand in the period buildings we help to restore.

At J H Vaudrey & Son, we are proud to help preserve this heritage, using traditional techniques and materials that honour how these
buildings were first made. From 15th century longhouses to listed halls and churches, every project is approached with the care these
buildings deserve.

Sustainability is not a single service. It is built into the way we work.

At J H Vaudrey & Son, we look for ways to build responsibly at every stage, from reusing materials such as topsoil on site to choosing traditional methods and natural materials that stand the test of time. Buildings designed and constructed to last mean less waste and fewer resources over a lifetime, which is better for our clients and better for the environment.

Whether it is agricultural groundworks, heritage restoration or a large-scale commercial build, we take pride in balancing progress with responsibility across everything we do.

Late summer is one of the best windows of the year for major structural work.

Drier ground, longer days and settled weather all make a real difference on site. They mean groundworks go in cleanly, frames go up safely, and a building can be made watertight well before the colder, wetter months arrive.

Getting the timing right is part of the craft. At J H Vaudrey & Son, we plan every project so the work happens when conditions are on your side, from agricultural builds to heritage restoration and large-scale construction.

Thinking about a project for this year or next? The sooner we talk, the better we can plan it.

A good industrial floor starts long before the concrete arrives.

On this project we prepared, poured and finished a new concrete floor for an industrial building. Careful preparation of the sub-base, an accurate pour and a properly power-floated finish all combine to create a surface that is level, hard-wearing and ready for heavy use from day one.

A floor like this takes daily traffic, plant and loading for decades, so getting it right at every stage matters. Our team manages the fullprocess from groundworks through to the finished slab.

Planning an industrial build or refurbishment? We would be glad to discuss it.

In heritage construction, every element matters, right down to the sole plate.

At J H Vaudrey & Son, we restore listed and period buildings using traditional techniques that echo the original workmanship. On a recent project we replaced the oak sole plate of a 15th century Suffolk longhouse with new green oak, crafted and fitted the way it would have been centuries ago. A solution designed to last another 500 years.

Preserving these buildings keeps an important part of our region's history alive, so it can be admired and enjoyed for generations to come.

Heritage or estate project in mind? Our team would be glad to discuss it.

Throwback to the end of May, when we swapped a marquee for something a little sturdier at the Suffolk Show.

Working alongside Tuckwells, we put up a temporary building for their show stand, giving them proper shelter and space that a marquee simply couldn't offer.

Now the heat has finally eased off, it's a good moment to look back and reflect on what the team pulled together that week, built and ready in time for showday.

Great to work alongside such a trusted name in agriculture, and a nice reminder of what our team can turn around at pace.

World Nature Conservation Day 🌾
Working across rural East Anglia means we see first-hand just how important it is to protect and respect the landscapes around us.

At JH Vaudrey & Son, many of our projects are built within working agricultural environments, where practical infrastructure needs to work alongside the natural surroundings - not against them.

From farm buildings and yard infrastructure to drainage and land management works, we understand the importance of delivering solutions that support farms and rural businesses while considering the wider environment around them.

With generations of experience working in the countryside, we’re proud to continue supporting the future of rural industries across the region. 🚜

From warehouses, showrooms and offices to infrastructure works, bulk stores and large agricultural buildings, we deliver building contracting solutions tailored to the needs of each client and site.

Our experience across commercial, agricultural and industrial construction has seen us work on projects including vehicle dealership showrooms, high-care food production extensions, warehouse developments and infrastructure improvements across East Anglia.

No two projects are the same, which is why we focus on bespoke construction solutions designed around functionality, efficiency and long-term performance.

Working across Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex and the wider East Anglia region, we continue to support farming, food production and commercial businesses with reliable building contracting services built to last.

If you’re planning a new commercial, agricultural or industrial project, we’d be glad to discuss your requirements.
