September saw fleet operators facing growing cost pressures, safety concerns and sustainability demands. Here are four key stories shaping the sector:

✅ Diesel Prices Hit Record Highs
The average cost of diesel exceeded £2 per litre for the first time, according to the RAC. Rising fuel costs are placing significant pressure on fleet operating budgets and reinforcing the need for effective fuel management strategies.

✅ Drug-Driving Risks Rise
Drug-driving convictions have overtaken drink-driving offences for the first time, with more than 21,000 convictions recorded last year. The trend is placing greater focus on driver wellbeing, fleet policies and road safety initiatives.

✅ Supply Chain Emissions Under Scrutiny
Businesses are preparing for new UK Sustainability Reporting Standards, expected from 2027. As a result, fleet operators are likely to face increasing pressure to measure and reduce transport-related emissions to remain competitive within supply chains.

✅ Skills and Driver Shortages Stay in Focus
Industry bodies continue to call for greater investment in transport and logistics skills, warning that workforce shortages remain a significant challenge for fleet operators across the UK and Ireland.

We're delighted to share our latest customer case study featuring Pall-Ex Logistics, who have partnered with Motia since 2017 to streamline fuel management across their logistics network.

In the video below, the Pall-Ex team shares how a centralised fuel card solution has helped simplify fuel management, reduce administration and improve visibility across approximately £100,000 of monthly fuel spend.

This footage, captured by a Motia camera system installed on a HGV with one of our Irish customers, shows just how quickly a routine journey can turn into a serious incident.

An impatient driver attempted a dangerous overtake of the vehicle, only to be confronted by a car emerging from an entrance in the opposite direction. The result was a collision that was captured from multiple angles by the Motia camera system.

Thankfully, nobody was seriously injured, although there was damage to the vehicles involved.

What happened next demonstrates the real value of vehicle cameras.

With the footage immediately available to view and download, our customer had clear, impartial evidence of exactly what had occurred. This helped support a swift insurance resolution and provided valuable evidence for An Garda Síochána as part of their investigation.

Without the footage, the outcome could have been very different. Incidents like this can quickly become a case of conflicting accounts, lengthy investigations and drawn-out insurance claims, costing businesses both time and money.

Instead, the facts were available within minutes.

It's another powerful example of how vehicle cameras don't just record incidents. They help protect drivers, support investigations, reduce risk and give fleet operators confidence when the unexpected happens.
