A nice little tidy-up job completed this week.

Following some plastering work, I was asked to sort out the electrics and cabling that had been left looking a little worse for wear.

Everything was tidied, contained and reorganised to leave a much cleaner and more professional finish.

It’s not always the big installations that make the biggest difference! 👍

As well as CCTV, intruder alarms, access control, gates & barriers, I’m also happy to take on small electrical jobs like this.

4K CCTV must be better than 5MP… right? 🤔
Not necessarily.
It's easy to compare CCTV cameras by looking at the megapixel number, but resolution is only one part of getting a good CCTV image.
I take into account things like:
📍 Where the camera is positioned🌙 How it performs at night👁️ What we actually need the camera to see🎥 Frame rate and image quality💾 How much recording/storage is required🔍 Whether we need an overview or identification
A correctly positioned 5MP camera can sometimes be far more useful than an 8MP/4K camera that's been chosen simply because the number on the box is bigger.
After 30+ years working with security systems, my approach is simple:
I don't sell you the camera with the biggest number. I specify the camera that's right for the job.

You probably DON'T need more CCTV cameras. 👀

One of the biggest misconceptions I come across is that more cameras automatically means better security.

It doesn't.

When I look at a property, I'm interested in what each camera is actually going to achieve.

Where are the entrances and exits?
Where are the vulnerable doors and windows?
Which direction would someone approach from?
Do we need an overview — or do we need to identify a face or vehicle?

Sometimes repositioning one camera or choosing the correct lens can achieve more than installing another three.

After 30+ years working with security systems, one thing I've learned is:

Good CCTV isn't about having the most cameras. It's about having the right cameras in the right places.

This week we were called in to rectify an existing CCTV installation that was no longer operating correctly.

The customer had:
❌ Lost access to the system
❌ Cameras offline
❌ Remote viewing issues
❌ Network configuration problems

Following a full system recovery and reconfiguration, all cameras are now online, recording correctly, and accessible both locally and remotely.
