Remedial/repair work is a big aspect of what we do, and is essential at maintaining and prolonging the life of brickwork to stop issues like damp and spalling. It’s also a way of improving the aesthetic of a build, as was the case with this job.

This ‘brickwork’ was hidden beneath window shutters that were eventually removed. Straight joints, incorrect brick sizes and overall poor laying & pointing we’re all an issue.

To remedy that we removed all the existing bricks, ‘toothed out’ to allow for the new bricks to be staggered and used the correct size and match. Not only that we used brick tint to help give the bricks a weathered look to match in almost perfectly with the existing. Overall a very good job done and helped restore the front facade back to its possible best.

Retaining wall project completed earlier this year ✅

This existing retaining wall was in need of a full rebuild after years of movement due to being structurally insufficient. Air bricks acting as weep holes ❌ single skin blockwork ❌ lack of coping stones ❌ incorrect bonding of blockwork in certain areas ❌ all contributed to the wall cracking and on the verge of collapsing.

When rebuilding the new retaining wall, we ensured it would stand the rest of time, increasing the walls overall width and building in sufficient weep holes to allow for the drainage of water to alleviate any pressure behind the wall. Finished with a once weathered coping stone also ensures the wall is protected from further weather damage, giving extra longevity. Behind we installed a geo-textile membrane to separate the soil from the newly laid pea gravel, helping assist with drainage. All the correct steps taken to help retain the ground behind ✅

Very satisfied with the overall outcome on this particular project, as was the customer, who could continue to use the drive with peace of mind the wall so no longer posing a risk.

One from back in the summer when we completed this porcelain patio ✅

After posting the initial preparation phase of work, we never revealed the finished article, so here it is 🤩

A beautiful new patio area for our customers to enjoy, changing the old concrete slabs to these modern porcelain pavers. Installed in a ‘brick bond’ pattern, these grey tiles work great with the anthracite border tiles. Accompanying the border tiles are a LED light channel which lights the patio at night (sadly no updated photos of these in action) and the steps were finished with a bullnose edging adding that extra level of finish to an already impressive space. A serious upgrade to this patio area which can now be the focal point of the garden for the family to enjoy.

It’s always nice to return to places where you’ve previously completed work. I completed this wall pre-Covid times and it’s weathered in beautifully. All built in an assortment of reclaimed bricks and finished with the existing saddleback coping stones.

Sometimes it’s the smaller jobs which are the most satisfying 🤩

We revisited this re-pointing job from a couple of weeks ago and safe to say it’s looking great now it’s fully dry. The old mortar was raked out and the brickwork given a clean before re-pointing in a conservation mix of sand, cement & hydrated lime. The wall now looks vibrant, full of character and will look great in this old Victorian terrace garden for years to come 👌

Garden wall rebuild completed ✅

A nice couple of days spent rebuilding this 9 inch front garden wall in LBC Heather’s. Despite the heat posing problems and the road sign bent into where the wall would be built because of a collision (hence the rebuild) the customers were really impressed with how it matched into the adjacent garden wall on their property, mainly thanks to a very good brick match and being able to re-use the existing copings and pier caps to finish it off. Todays also been spent raking out the old mortar on the larger existing wall ready for repointing at the beginning of next week to tie both walls in together.
