🚉 Project Complete! Foam Concrete Works at Watton-on-Stone Station 👷‍♂️💪

Over the first two weekends of October, our GS Foam Concrete site teams were all aboard 🚂 for specialist foam concrete infilling works at Watton-on-Stone Train Station for Walker Construction.

🕓 Working through two night shifts during planned possession works, the challenge was no small task — 44 platform cells needed infilling, each carefully completed in two lifts to control loading pressures and maximise stabilisation.

Our site teams manufactured a P460 lightweight foam concrete (wet density 1450 kg/m³) to achieve a compressive strength of 5n/mm2 — and, with space tighter than a rush-hour carriage, we put our Camfaud Concrete Pumps Ltd Putzmeister United Kingdom BSA1006 static pump to excellent use.

✅ Every batch was tested for compliance before being expertly pumped into position.
⏰ And yes — we wrapped up on time, ready for Monday’s commuters to step safely onto the platform without a clue about the weekend wizardry beneath their feet.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 A wee trip up north! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We’ve just wrapped up our furthest project to date — all the way to Invergordon, Scotland, supporting the world of whisky-making at Whyte & Mackay. 🥃

On behalf of Briggs of Burton, our team infilled redundant voids beneath the false floors of 26 brand-new whisky tanks. This was no small feat: with Scottish weather doing its best to keep us on our toes and rural logistics adding an extra twist, precision was everything.

Using our SP25 grout pump and specialist P1150 foam concrete (900kg/m³ dry density, 4n/mm² compressive strength @ 28 days), we carefully infilled 98m³ across all 26 tanks in just 5 days — ensuring the tanks are fit to hold their precious cargo without risk of floor deformation.

Fun fact: Did you know whisky must legally mature in oak casks for at least 3 years in Scotland before it can even be called “Scotch”? That means every drop has patience built in. 🧐

🚧 BSCU London Project Update! 🏙️

Over the past 2 weeks, we’ve been working in partnership with Dragados UK & Ireland at London Underground Bank Station as part of the BSCU Bank Street Capacity Upgrade project 🏦 We were tasked with infilling a redundant 30m deep shaft once used for equipment access during the station’s refurbishment. 🛠️

🟦 1400m³ of our P595-1200kgs specialist foam concrete was pumped in over just 13 days, achieving a 28-day strength of 4 MPa 💪💥

🔹 Project Complete: Springwell Pipeline Annulus Grouting 🔹

Over a 5-day period, GS Foam Concrete successfully completed a technically complex annulus grouting project on a 360m pipeline for JN Bentley at A195 Northumberland Way.

💡 Scope of Works:

Supplied sacrificial pipes for even foam concrete distribution within the void

Supplied & pumped P1200 foam concrete at 900kg/m³ dry density

A proven visual 100% infill of the annulus void between a new water pipe and concrete liner

♻️ Lower Carbon Alternative:
To support sustainable construction, we utilised a more environmentally friendly P1200 mix design incorporating just 300kg of CEM I and a higher content of 900kg of GGBS (Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag). This significantly reduced embodied carbon while maintaining structural performance.

🛠 Key Challenge:
With launch/reception shafts backfilled, no visual access was available during the infill. Our team innovated by adapting sacrificial pipes as vent points — a method never before implemented by GS Foam Concrete.

🚀 Innovative Solution:
Using our SP25 grout pump and a 50mm delivery pipe inserted into a 100mm sacrificial pipe, we pumped an additional 24m³ of material to fully infill the void — confirmed by visible foam concrete at both vent points.

📊 Project Outcomes:

634m³ of specialist foam concrete installed

Achieved 4N/mm² compressive strength at 28 days

Delivered on time and without disruption

Critical works completed safely and professionally

✅ Part One Complete – Precision Pipeline Infill in Penrith

is proud to have successfully completed the first of two redundant gas pipeline infills for .haknl on site in Penrith, Cumbria.

📍 The pipeline, measuring 50m in length, ran beneath the A66 – a critical transport route – requiring a reliable and efficient solution to safely decommission and fill the void.

🧪 For this project, we utilised our specialist P1200 foam concrete mix, engineered specifically for pipeline applications. With its low density (1000kg/m³) and excellent flowability, it ensured full encapsulation of the void while achieving a minimum average compressive strength of 5N/mm² at 28 days.

⚙️ A total of 44m³ of foam concrete was pumped into the pipeline until material was observed through the vent pipes, confirming full volume and successful infill.

♻️ The P1200 mix also supports our sustainability goals with its eco-conscious formulation, designed to reduce embodied carbon while maintaining performance.

🚧 Project Complete! 🚧

We recently tackled a challenging infill project for United Living Group in Birmingham — infilling a 120m redundant gas main beneath a live rail line! 🚆

Using pre-installed 50mm steel pipes, we expertly pumped 24m³ of our specialist P1150 foam concrete into the void. Once material reached the vent points, the void was classed as full and complete! ✅

🚧 Project Completion at Rondin Road, Manchester! 🚧

Successful completion of another project for at Rondin Road on home turf in Manchester! The Rondin Road project is part of The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) and was completed in 4 days. expertly infilled a redundant bridge void using 632m³ of specialist P1224 foam concrete with a dry density of 1200kg/m³ and a minimum compressive strength of 10N/mm² at 28 days.

Shoutout to and for supplying the base mix that helped us get the job done!

💪🏼 Another successful project wrapped up for in Bristol! 💼 Service ducting encapsulated flawlessly within the culvert using lightweight flowable foam concrete. 🏗️ No void left unfilled, no disruption to service ducts.

🛠️ We used specialist lightweight foam concrete mix P915:

• 1500kg Dry density
• 155m3 total volume
• Minimum compressive strength of 14n/mm2 at 28days.

👍Thrilled to share the successful completion of our foam concrete infilling works at the Balfour Beatty plc project in Bishopsgate, Leeds! 🏢 Last year, we tackled this project over 4 visits, utilizing our specialized mix: P595 - dry density of 1250kg and an average compressive strength of 5n/mm2 at 28 days. 💪
