🎀 Turning pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 💗

At UBU, looking out for one another matters. This October, we’re proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the vital work of Breast Cancer Now, while standing alongside everyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer. 💗

Whether it’s a colleague, friend, family member or someone going through it themselves, a little care and support can mean a lot.

Be breast aware. Check your breasts regularly, know what’s normal for you, and if you notice any changes, speak to your GP.

We have given our familiar green sweeper a pink makeover - a small gesture for a cause that means so much to so many. 💕

🧁 And there’s more to come! Stay tuned for our Wear It Pink Bake Sale on 23 October, when Team UBU will be raising money for Breast Cancer Now. 🎀💗

Together, we can raise awareness, show we care and remind each other that no one has to face it alone.

🌍 Different languages. One community.

Today we’re celebrating International Day of Languages and the many different languages, cultures and backgrounds that make up our communities - and our UBU team.

Many of our sweeper drivers and colleagues come from across the world, including Poland, Bulgaria and Lithuania, bringing their own languages, experiences and cultures to UBU. 🚛💚

Whether it’s Hello, Cześć, Labas, Здравей, Bonjour or Hola - a simple greeting can be the start of a connection.

So today we're celebrating the different voices that make up Team UBU and help keep our communities moving every day.

Our UBU sweepers have recently been out working at two of Manchester’s biggest stadiums – Old Trafford and the Etihad. 🧹

It’s a great opportunity for the team to support such iconic venues and showcase the important work our sweepers do across the city.

🌍 This World Cleanup Day, let’s make a difference together. ♻️

Every day, our hardworking street sweeping teams are out keeping our roads, streets and communities cleaner - and today is the perfect opportunity for all of us to join them. 🚛💚

🌱 Pick it up. Bin it. Make a difference.

Whether you pick up a few pieces of litter on your walk, tidy up outside your workplace or get together for a bigger community clean-up, every action counts.
Because cleaner communities aren’t created by one person - they’re created when we all do our bit. 🙌

🚑 Learning skills that could save a life! ❤️

It was all hands on deck at UBU today as some of the team took part in First Aid training with Mantra.

There was plenty of hands-on practice - from CPR and defibrillator training to bandaging and dealing with different emergency situations - giving everyone the chance to build their skills and confidence.

A brilliant session, lots learnt and, as you can see, everyone got stuck in! 👏😂

And to top it all off… everyone passed the test at the end! 🎉👏

Huge thanks to Mantra for putting us through our paces and helping make UBU an even safer place to work.

♻️ From road sweepings to a reusable resource 🌱

This Zero Waste Week, we’re showcasing how materials that might otherwise be treated as waste can be given a new purpose.

Material collected by our sweepers is taken to UBU’s treatment plant, where it goes through our recovery and treatment process - transforming it into usable soil that meets BS 3882:2015 standards for topsoil. 🌍

And the journey doesn’t stop there… the recovered soil has gone on to be used for trees planted by City of Trees In Deansgate, Manchester. 🌳

It’s a great example of the circular economy in action — recovering resources, reducing waste and giving materials a valuable new purpose.

Today is International Day of Charity 💚

At UBU, supporting our local communities is just as important as the work we do every day.

Recently, we visited The Shed, part of Salford Foundation , to deliver donations collected by our staff in the charity food/ toiletries collection and to enjoy a brilliant community summer BBQ. 🔥🍔

The Shed provides a safe and supportive space for men in the local community, offering guidance, mentoring and support across wellbeing, employment, education, finances and independent living.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and to the team at The Shed for having us. We’re proud to support the incredible work they do and the positive difference they make in the community. 💚🧡

We're looking for HGV Road Sweeper Drivers to join our team, working mainly across the Greater Manchester area.

Minimum Requirements:
Category C (Class 2) Licence
In-date Driver CPC Card

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
NVQ Level 2 in Road Sweeping & Gully Sucking
Skilled Worker **CSCS Card**
Left-hand drive experience preferred, but not essential

What We Offer:
10–12 hour shifts
Opportunities for weekend and night work, paid at time and a half
Your own allocated road sweeper once you've completed our comprehensive in-house induction and training programme

Last week we had the pleasure of revisiting the Blackleach Allotment Community for a tour of the site and to see the fantastic work happening within the community.

It was brilliant to see the time, care and effort that goes into creating and maintaining such a welcoming green space.
From growing flowers and plants to creating new areas for wildlife, there’s so much happening across the allotments. 🌿🐝

We were also able to see how our soil and seed have been put to use, helping to grow flowers and plants, as well as providing a base for a pond. 🪻💧

A huge thank you to Mark at Blackleach for showing us around and giving us an insight into everything you’re doing. It was great to see the positive impact the allotments are having on the local community and the environment. 💚
