Now for something completely different, just to finish the year!
We were asked to construct an oak Italian style patio structure. This was certainly something different from our norm. Just to give you a feel for the work involved this is what we had to do.
First of all we extended the customers' existing patio to the full extent of the planning permission and then excavated 4 holes and back-filled with concrete for footings. We laid courses of reclaimed bricks around the central stainless steel spikes then erected 4 oak posts and braced.
Back in the workshop we constructed 2 king post trusses with loose rafters. We invited our customers over to approve our work before we dismantled the trusses and packed them for transport..
Returning to site we chopped into the house wall to allow fitting of the wall plates, purlings and ridge. We re-erected the king post trusses on site, infilled between the king posts and house with common rafters, overlaid with oak boarding, cross-laid with roofing battens and then overlaid with breathable felt, Clay pantiles were then laid, including ridge tiles and slips with step leadwork at the wall. To finish off guttering was fixed to both sides.
