A huge congratulations to Peter Andrews, Pee-Wee to his friends, who has recently retired from DSF after an extraordinary 45 years of service.

Pete began his journey with DSF on the Semi‑Dry presses, in June 1980. He later moved into the Mineral Processing Department, contributing to the development of the team.

In 2019, Pete joined the Engineering Department, taking on responsibility for maintaining the company’s LEV systems, the role he kept until his retirement.

Across more than four decades, Pete has been a happy, dependable, and deeply committed member of the DSF workforce who will be greatly missed.

We wish Pete a long, happy, and well‑earned retirement.

DSF’s HR Officer, Diane Broadley, and Sales Office Team Leader, Leah Goodwin, recently attended Lady Manners School in Bakewell as part of National Careers Week.

They joined a number of local employers at the school’s Career Café, where students could drop in to explore future pathways and ask questions about careers, education, and training.

The informal, café style setting created a relaxed atmosphere that encouraged open conversation and genuine curiosity.

The Lady Manners students were a pleasure to speak with - polite, engaged, and eager to learn. We look forward to meeting them again at future events.

Derek Whelpton obituary.

We received the sad news last week of the passing of our former Managing Director, Derek Whelpton, at the age of 83.

Derek joined DSF from Steetley Refractories as Area Sales Manager in 1972 and was promoted to Works Manager in 1977. Under the ownership of BH-F, Derek became Production Director in 1982 and was appointed Managing Director in 1988, which was the position he held until a Management Buy-Out of DSF in 2003. Derek steered the company though some interesting and turbulent times, including the sale of the company by Tilbury to BH-F, a receivership and a changing market environment where the company had to develop new products and new markets as it sought to increase its export sales to remain viable.

All at DSF share our thoughts and condolences with Derek’s family, including his son Chris who is Minerals Director and a current shareholder of DSF.

RIP Derek

Investment continues at DSF during National Apprenticeship Week.

Work is progressing well on the installation of our new Teka mixer, which will supply the recently commissioned Laeis refractory brick press. DSF apprentice Tye is completing the wiring of the control panel, designed in house by DSF engineers and built around Siemens fail-safe PLC technology and variable speed drives. DSF continues to invest in developing its engineering team, providing the specialist training required to deliver this level of advanced automation work.
