A little bit of old-school technology this week… 🕹️

My son recently asked if he could see my old Commodore 64 and have a go at some of the games I used to play.

So, after being packed away for years, out it came — cassette deck and all!

There was something quite satisfying about switching it on and seeing that familiar blue BASIC screen appear again. Even better, after remembering the patience required to actually load a game from cassette 😂, Street Fighter was up and running.

For my son, the idea of waiting several minutes for a game to load from a cassette probably seems ridiculous when everything today is instant.

For me, though, computers like this were where an interest in technology really started.

It’s amazing to think how far things have come — from 64KB of RAM and cassette tapes to the technology we now install every day: intelligent fire alarm systems, IP CCTV, networked access control, wireless security and smart technology.

Although I did have a quick look at the Commodore and thought… I’m not sure I’ll be programming any fire alarms or CCTV systems from it anytime soon! 😄

And after nearly 40 years… the Commodore still works!

Sometimes the old technology deserves a bit of appreciation too, we wouldn’t be where we are today if wasn’t for it 👌

📹 CCTV Installation – The Griffin Inn, Newquay

A great local job completed at the Griffin Newquay , installing additional CCTV coverage around the property to improve security and provide better coverage of key external areas.

We picked a particularly busy time to get this one done! 😅 With Boardmasters in full swing and a continuous stream of customers coming in for breakfast, there was plenty going on around us while we worked.

A few challenges with cable routes and access along the way, but everything was installed neatly and positioned to provide the coverage required — and the Cornish sunshine certainly helped! ☀️

A big well done to all the staff at The Griffin Inn too. They were incredibly busy throughout the morning but kept everything running smoothly and made us feel welcome while we were working. 👏

Always great to work with and support another local Newquay business.

Another Busy Week at Corp Fire & Security 🔧📡🔥

This week has been a bit of a mixed bag, covering everything from networking and CCTV through to access control and fire alarm maintenance.

📶 Wi-Fi Extension & Security Upgrade
A customer was struggling with poor internet coverage outside the main house. We installed a dedicated network cable to the outbuilding, fitted a wireless access point and installed a Ring outdoor camera. The result was reliable Wi-Fi coverage and download speeds exceeding 100Mbps throughout the property.

🔐 Paxton PaxLock Pro Replacement
Working on behalf of MC Fire and Security we replaced and reconfigured a faulty Paxton PaxLock Pro, restoring secure access control and ensuring everything was operating as it should.

🔥 Fire Alarm Maintenance
We also carried out the replacement of ageing fire alarm devices, swapping out old equipment for new to help keep the system reliable and compliant.

It’s always satisfying seeing a variety of systems brought back up to standard and knowing customers can rely on them when they need them most.

And after a busy week on the tools, there was only one way to finish it off… 🍟🐟

👨‍🔧A routine monitor replacement turned into a full system fault-finding visit…

After attending site to replace a faulty CCTV monitor, further investigation revealed faults on three CCTV cameras around the property, with one camera requiring replacement.

While on site, we also diagnosed an issue with the automatic gates not opening and closing at their programmed times. The fault was traced to the gate controller time clock having fallen out of sync, which was corrected and tested.

The result:

✅ New CCTV monitor installed
✅ Three camera faults rectified
✅ One camera replaced
✅ Full CCTV coverage restored
✅ Automatic gate timing fault corrected
✅ Systems tested and fully operational
