An important report from the ECIU and CBI Economics today.

It’s new evidence that the transition to homegrown clean power, and the energy security this provides, is also a major driver of jobs and wealth in the Scottish economy.

SSEN Transmission's £29bn investment programme to upgrade the grid is a vital part of this growth story.

New opportunities have been created for people across our operating area in the north of Scotland to build careers closer to home, while supporting communities to grow and thrive.

This research helps to highlight the wider impact our clean power future has in the north of Scotland by supporting well-paid jobs, strengthening local economies, and ensuring communities benefit for generations to come.

An industry report suggests that the net-zero economy is already established and employs more than 105,000 people.

We’ve helped save electricity consumers £296 million this year 💡

By finding smarter ways to run and upgrade the network, we’re helping reduce costs that would end up on UK energy bills.

You may sometimes see wind turbines standing still.

This can happen when the electricity grid can’t carry all the renewable power being generated, meaning some wind farms have to switch off temporarily. That creates extra costs for bill payers.

We’re working to change that by:
⚡ Improving how the network operates today
⚡ Investing in upgrades to carry more clean energy in the future

Early works to begin on Highland route for Western Isles HVDC Link 🔌

We’re taking another important step forward in delivering the Western Isles HVDC Link, with early works set to begin on the mainland cable route between Dundonnell and Beauly from 8th June.

These initial activities - including access improvements, temporary compounds and preparatory works - will help support construction of the underground cable later this year.

Delivered by Highlands-based contractor RJ McLeod, this phase will also support local jobs, supply chain opportunities and wider economic benefits through our Highland Social Value Charter.

A major milestone at Lochay Substation 🚚

Two new transformers have now safely arrived at our Lochay substation site, marking a key step forward in our work to upgrade the local transmission network.

The complex delivery through Killin required careful planning and close coordination with partners to keep people safe and minimise disruption - thank you to the local community for your patience and support.

🎬 Watch the transformers on their journey.

We’re inviting communities across north Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to learn more about plans to upgrade the electricity network between Peterhead, Kintore and Persley.

These early-stage proposals will:
🏗️ Replace ageing infrastructure
⚡ Strengthen network resilience and reliability
🍃 Support the growth of renewable energy across Scotland and the UK

We’ll be hosting a series of public information events in June, giving people the chance to see our proposals, ask questions and share their views.

📅 Thursday 28 May
📍 Forgue (Scott Hall)
⏰ 3 - 7pm
