⚠️UPDATE: Road closure notice: South College Street, Aberdeen

South College Street will now be closed from Monday 14 September, not Monday 7 September, between Riverside Roundabout and the junction with Wellington Place while we carry out essential repairs to part of the underground duct system supporting a major electricity cable replacement project.

The repairs are required after engineers identified water entering part of the duct network during the final stages of the project. The road closure is currently expected to remain in place until 18 December. However, the end date remains subject to change due to unforeseen delays or adverse weather conditions.

The project is replacing decades-old infrastructure linking Redmoss and Clayhills substations and will help maintain a secure and reliable electricity supply for Aberdeen for decades to come.

We appreciate the patience of residents, businesses and road users while this important work is completed. Local access for residents and businesses will be maintained, and diversions will be in place.

The clean energy transition depends on having the right skills in the right places.

That's why we've confirmed Thainstone Business Park near Inverurie as the home of our new state-of-the-art £150m training centre, creating a dedicated hub where colleagues and contractor partners can develop the practical skills needed to support the electricity network of the future.

Supporting hundreds of trainees each year, the centre will combine classroom learning with realistic operational training environments, helping us develop the workforce needed to deliver, operate and maintain the transmission network across the north of Scotland.

You can learn more and provide feedback on our plans for the facility at our upcoming consultation events at The Bothy Function Suite in Thainstone on 23 September and 27 October.

🚨 Reminder: A832 night-time road closures starting 24 August

Earlier this year, we met with people in Aultbea and Dundonnell to discuss planned culvert replacement works on the A832. As we prepare to start on site, we'd like to remind everyone about the temporary traffic arrangements that will be in place.

From 24 August to 4 October 2026, the A832 will be closed each night between 9pm and 7am while the work is carried out.

🚧 Night-time road closure on the A832 (9pm to 7am)
↩️ Signed diversion route via Achnasheen and Garve
🚗 Convoy traffic management during the day through the work area
🚑 Emergency access will be maintained at all times

We know these arrangements will add time to some journeys and we'd like to thank local residents and road users for their patience while we complete these important works.

Scotland has seen a rise in the number of bears in the wild... thanks to YMCA Tayside 🐻

Until 2 September, 30 artist designed bear sculptures are waiting to be discovered across Perth and Kinross to help raise funds for local youth services. You'll find our sponsored bear, 'There and Back Again', at the SSE Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre

Designed and painted by artist Stewart Graham Art, the sculpture celebrates the landscapes of Tayside, from the Cairngorm mountains to the Angus coastline.

Volunteers from our Kintore substation project rolled up their sleeves to help give the garden at Airlie House sheltered housing complex a summer makeover.

Working alongside Kintore and District Community Council, the Kintore Men's Shed other volunteers, the team built a pergola and helped transform the space into somewhere residents can enjoy for years to come.

A fantastic day at Aberdeen Science Centre! 🧪

⚡️ A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday for our open day in the Energy Zone at Aberdeen Science Centre - we welcomed around 600 attendees who got hands-on with our interactive stands and circuits workshops throughout the day.

Our VR stand was a big hit, giving attendees the chance to explore infrastructure and energy through immersive experience and interactive games 👓

It was brilliant to see so much enthusiasm and curiosity around the future of energy, and a big thank you to Aberdeen Science Centre for having us! 👏
