👏 Our Spittal to Peterhead team has been lending a hand in Wick.

Volunteers from SSEN Transmission, NKT A/S and John Gunn and Son Ltd spent the day at Staxigoe and Papigoe Playpark helping clear an overgrown path as part of Sinclair’s Bay Community Council ongoing work to improve the park.

As work on the Spittal to Peterhead subsea cable link progresses, we’re committed to making a positive contribution to the communities hosting our infrastructure.

Thanks to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and got involved!

📢 How could £785,000 make a difference in Strathnairn?

We’re inviting people across Strathnairn and the surrounding area south of Inverness to help shape our new £785,000 Aberarder Local Fund, associated with our Aberarder Wind Farm Connection project.

The consultation runs from Monday 26 October to Friday 20 November, and we want local people, community groups and stakeholders to tell us:

St Fergus Church has been part of Wick's story for generations. With support from our Shetland HVDC Link Local Fund, Wick Development Trust has acquired the building, securing its future in community ownership and creating new opportunities for local people to come together.

The building will become the new St Fergus Community Centre, providing an invaluable space for community groups, events, meetings and activities while preserving an important part of the town's heritage.

It's a great example of how community benefit funding linked to transmission infrastructure can unlock lasting local value, alongside the investment needed to build a future of secure, more affordable clean power.

What a great outcome for Wick. 👏 We're proud that our local fund could help keep this much-loved building in community hands and support its next chapter as St Fergus Community Centre.

The former St Fergus Church is to be turned into a community facility after being acquired by Wick Development Trust.
Most of the £80,000 purchase price was met from SSEN Transmission’s Shetland HVDC Link Local Fund, with the remainder coming from Wick River Campsite profits. The historic building will now be known as St Fergus Community Centre.
