Forty trips with a watering can, or one outside tap fitted in under two hours? June is the month most Salford gardens find out the hard way that a garden tap is missing.

Done properly, the job includes a WRAS-approved double check valve (a legal requirement that stops garden water siphoning back into your drinking supply), an internal isolation valve you can actually reach, and sleeved, sealed pipework through the wall. Skip those details and you get the burst pipe and soaked wall that shows up the following spring.

Fixed prices quoted before we arrive, covering Salford, Swinton, Worsley, Pendlebury, Seedley, Prestwich, and Kersal.

October is the worst month to discover your boiler needs attention. Engineers are booked solid, parts are in demand, and every fault means a cold house while you wait. June is the opposite: quiet diaries, same-week appointments, and months of breathing room to fix anything the service uncovers.

A summer service also protects your manufacturer warranty. Worcester Bosch and Baxi both require an annual service by a Gas Safe Registered engineer, and a missed anniversary can void a claim on a nearly new boiler. Our engineers run the full twelve-point inspection, stamp your service record, and quote any repair at a fixed price before work starts.

Serving Salford, Swinton, Worsley, Pendlebury, Seedley, Prestwich, and Kersal.

By the time the suitcase is by the front door, the boiler in the kitchen cupboard is the last thing on most people's minds. That's exactly when small problems turn into bigger ones — a slow drip that becomes a ceiling stain, a stopcock that won't turn the day you fly, a smart thermostat schooled in baby mode by an inquisitive house guest.

Our pre-holiday checklist takes under thirty minutes. Test the stopcock turns and shuts off the cold supply. Check the boiler pressure sits between 1.0 and 1.5 bar. Test the smoke and CO alarms. Set the thermostat to holiday or frost-protection mode. Fix any dripping tap before you go — that's the single most common cause of an overheated cupboard when someone gets home.

More on the two jobs worth booking us for before you fly, on our blog.

A gas leak you can smell is straightforward — switch off at the meter, ring 0800 111 999 and the National Gas Emergency Service is on the kerb within an hour. The leaks our Gas Safe engineers worry about are the faint ones: a tightness test failure at boiler service, a smell that comes and goes, an unexplained rise in gas use on the smart meter. Those are the leaks that thermal imaging and acoustic detection are built to find.

Thermal cameras spot the cold patch left by gas cooling as it escapes under pressure. Acoustic probes pick up the ultrasonic hiss of the leak point itself. Combined, the two methods pin most leaks to within a centimetre or two — long before a single floorboard or cupboard panel needs to come out.

More on how the detection visit works, and why May is the right month to clear up any nagging suspicion before summer holidays, on our blog.

Hot taps but cold radiators is the classic late-spring boiler fault we see across Salford right now. The usual culprit is a stuck diverter valve inside your combi — the small mechanical part that decides whether your boiler is heating water or radiators. A failing pump, a thermostat fault or trapped air can cause it too, which is why a proper diagnosis matters before you reach for spanners.

Our Gas Safe engineers run a fixed thirty-minute check that starts with system pressure, thermostat and timer, then moves to the diverter valve, pump and motorised valve. Most repairs are done in a single visit, with common Worcester Bosch and Baxi parts already on the van. Where the boiler is older than twelve to fifteen years, we'll be straight about whether a replacement is the smarter call.

More on what's actually going wrong and how MGH fixes it on our blog.

Most households think about heating controls in October — but by then the engineers are booked solid and the savings on this winter's gas are already half spent. Spring is the quieter, smarter window for a smart thermostat install, and it's when our Nest Pro accredited engineers fit most of the units that go into homes across Salford, Swinton, Worsley and Pendlebury.

A learning thermostat needs around two weeks of normal household activity to build an accurate schedule. Fit one in May and it has the whole shoulder season to settle in before autumn. The Energy Saving Trust estimates good heating controls save a typical UK home about £100 a year on gas, and a learning device usually tightens that further by trimming start times and holding off when nobody is home.

More on what install day looks like — and what smart heating actually changes in a Salford home — on our blog.

Central Heating Power Flush: Why Your System Needs Cleaning

Over time, central heating systems accumulate deposits that degrade performance. Magnetite, a black iron oxide produced by the corrosion of steel pipework and radiators, circulates through the system and settles in pipes and heat exchangers. This sludgy buildup restricts water flow, forcing the boiler to work harder to push water through the system.

Gas Safety Certificates: Understanding Landlord Responsibilities

Landlords have a legal responsibility to ensure that all gas appliances and pipework in rental properties are safe. This obligation is not optional — it is a statutory requirement enforced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Every rental property with gas appliances must have an annual gas safety check by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Spring Boiler Service: Why April Is the Best Time to Check Your Heating

April might seem an odd time to think about your boiler when heating season appears to be over. But spring is actually the ideal moment to service your heating system. Before you turn off your heating for summer, a few minutes spent now could save you money, stress, and emergency callout fees when autumn arrives. Booking a spring service means immediate availability and shorter wait times.
