We are delighted to have handed over JT Atkinson newest depot in Skipton. Opening in May, the development comprises a 1332m² portal-framed building with 556 m² mezzanine, office space, trade counter, staff welfare facilities, warehouse storage, a service yard and staff/customer parking.
One of the biggest challenges encountered during the project was the poor ground condition across the site. To address these challenges, our team implemented a range of solutions, including ground stabilisation techniques, engineered fill, piling, and a specialist foundation design to ensure the building’s structural integrity and long-term performance. The site was also located directly beneath 33kV overhead power lines, adding further complexity to the build. This required detailed planning, comprehensive risk assessments, and the implementation of strict safety protocols to enable safe and efficient construction activities.
The development incorporated several environmentally responsible design features, including the installation of photovoltaic panels to generate renewable energy and reduce the building’s operational carbon footprint. In addition, the site includes an attenuation system designed to manage surface water runoff and reduce pressure on local drainage infrastructure.
The development is currently on track to achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating and, in addition, the building achieved an EPC rating of A+ (-6), indicating that it produces more energy than it consumes over the course of a year. This performance is widely recognised as aligning with net zero operational energy standards.
