Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 đź’š
This year’s theme is Action because while awareness is important, it’s the actions we take that help protect and improve our mental health.
A good way to think about mental health is the idea of a “stress bucket.” We all carry one.
The bucket represents our personal capacity to cope with stress, while the water inside represents everyday pressures such as work, finances, lack of sleep, family worries, deadlines, and the smaller day to day frustrations that slowly build up over time.
If we don’t release some of that pressure, eventually the bucket overflows, leading to stress, burnout, anxiety, irritability, or poor mental wellbeing.
That’s where the “taps” come in, the positive actions we take to release pressure and empty the bucket:
đź’š Exercise and movement
đź’š Spending time outdoors
đź’š Talking to friends or colleagues
đź’š Taking time away from work
đź’š Hobbies and activities you enjoy
đź’š Setting boundaries and making time to reset
Take five minutes today to reflect:
What are your “taps”? What genuinely helps you switch off, recharge, or feel happy?
The important thing is not just recognising them, but making time for them regularly. Looking after your mental health works best when it becomes part of your routine, not just something you focus on when things feel overwhelming.
At Potter Plant Hire, we care deeply about mental health and the wellbeing of our team. If anyone ever feels they need extra support, please reach out, we will always do our best to help and can put you in contact with our Mental Health First Aider and additional support services if needed.
We also proudly support the Lighthouse Charity and the Construction Industry Helpline, which provides a free and confidential 24/7 helpline for construction workers and their families.

Sometimes the smallest action, simply checking in on someone or asking if they’re okay, can make the biggest difference.
