Progress Update - The Laurels, Tiverton 🏗️

Another stage completed on site for Lawday Construction.

The new roof has now been finished with a single ply membrane over an insulated deck, with the parapets formed and complete with outlet details.

A great finish to this part of the project, completed by D.P Goffin - Roofing Specialist. based in Tiverton.

Thanks to the team for the quality workmanship 👌

MEET THE TEAM - JASON

Today we’re introducing Jason, one of the team here at Lawday Construction 👷‍♂️

As well as being a valued member of our team, Jason has another very important role - he’s a firefighter with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service 🚒

Jason has been serving since 2015 and this year has been selected as one of 343 UK firefighters heading to Atlanta to take part in an incredible memorial stair climb, marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

The challenge will see the team climb 110 flights of stairs - the equivalent height of the World Trade Center - in honour of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day.

We’re incredibly proud of Jason for taking on such a meaningful challenge, and we’re pleased to be able to support him along the way.

Jason is currently fundraising, with money raised helping towards the costs of taking part in the event, and any funds raised above those costs being donated to The Fire Fighters Charity, The Blue Light Foundation and the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund - charities supporting firefighters, blue light colleagues and their families.

Lawday Foundations 💙🧡

We’re proud to share that Lawday Construction has started work at a local primary school, undertaking decorating works to parts of the school free of charge as part of our “Lawday Foundations” programme, where we support local communities or causes by donating labour, materials or financially contributing.

For us, this is about more than a fresh coat of paint. It’s about supporting where so many local children spend their days, and doing our bit for the community we’re part of.

This local primary school does so much for the children and their families, so it means a lot to be able to give something back and brighten the place up for them. Cupboard transformation ✨

In the words of our client: “fantastic job. I’m so happy I can finally start using some more space. The bookshelf is beautiful” 🥰

From empty cupboards to functional storage space - we gave these two cupboards a fresh new look, built and fitted slatted shelving, and handcrafted a children’s scalloped-front bookshelf from scratch to perfectly fit the space. One of our favourite finishing touches? A lower handle so little hands can open the cupboard all by themselves 🩷

🚧 Project Update - The Laurels, Tiverton

A few weeks into our refurbishment project at The Laurels (converting the Vale Veterinary building into six apartments), and great progress is being made on site.

So far we have:
✔️ Removed ceilings throughout
✔️ Stripped out all mechanical and electrical services
✔️ Decommissioned the existing air conditioning system
✔️ Started structural works while we await delivery of the structural steelwork

It’s always exciting to see a project move from strip-out into the next phase, and we’re looking forward to seeing the steelwork, damp-proofing and insulation works progress in the coming weeks.

✨ Project Complete — Full Home Renovation, Devon ✨

We’ve just handed back the keys on a top-to-bottom refurbishment of a lovely home in Devon. Every room was given the full treatment - here’s a taste of what the team got stuck into:

🛏️ Bedrooms - Stripped back, ceilings boarded and skimmed, walls plastered and freshly decorated throughout.
 The Master Bedroom got a brand-new fitted sliding wardrobe, paneled wall and new carpet, plus we sorted a damp/mould issue with an old capped chimney stack with some upgraded insulation and a vapour barrier.
 We even built a rustic timber feature shelf with some under-lighting above one of the beds. 👌

🛁 Bathroom - A full refit: new vanity unit and basin, comfort-height WC, chrome heated towel rail, anti-fog LED mirror cabinet, floor tiling, and wall splash panel extended throughout for a clean, low-maintenance finish.

🛋️ Lounge & Hall - Re-plastered and decorated, new radiators and covers, recessed spotlights, feature wall above fireplace, new shelving and a smart paneled dado detail in the hall, with feature wall lights, and new LVT flooring underfoot.

🍳 Kitchen - Walls and ceilings insulated, skimmed, and decorated, a brand-new media wall, recessed downlighters on two circuits, new LVT flooring and radiator cover. New storage in utility room, trickle vents fitted and boxed in consumer unit for a tidy finish.

🔌 Throughout - A new consumer unit and full electrical upgrade to current regs, brushed steel sockets and switches, new light fittings, smoke detection, and improved ventilation.

Project Complete 👌

A little background on this one…

The previous set-up wasn’t in urgent need of an aesthetic upgrade, but it was built against a solid stone wall that was prone to damp and mould.

It was time for a refresh - and a long-term solution to the issue.

✅ Existing shelving and TV unit removed
✅ Stud wall constructed and insulated
✅ Walls plastered and redecorated
✅ Bespoke media wall installed with integrated storage units
✅ Lighting upgraded to enhance both functionality and ambience

Not only has the space been completely transformed, but the damp and mould issue has also been addressed, creating a warmer, more practical living area.

Darren brings over 20 years’ experience across the construction and housebuilding industry. Starting out as a Carpenter before training as a Quantity Surveyor, Darren combines hands-on site knowledge with strong commercial expertise.

He has held senior leadership roles, including Commercial Director for a £60m+ residential developer, and now leads Lawday Construction from its base in Mid-Devon - providing practical, commercially focused construction and project support to homeowners and developers across Tiverton, Exeter, Cullompton, Taunton and the wider Devon and Somerset area.
