πŸ†πŸ† What a night!

We're absolutely thrilled to share that TRESOC has won not one, but TWO awards at the Regen Green Energy Awards 2026 in Bristol!

TRESOC won the Community Energy Initiative Award, recognising the work we've been doing with Energy Local Totnes to build a fairer, greener local energy market right here in Totnes.

And in an historic first, TRESOC's Managing Director, Dr Sally Murrall-Smith, jointly won the Net Zero Energy Pioneer Award alongside Dr Mary Gillie, founder of Energy Local CIC – the first time the award has ever been given to two winners!

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners, and thanks to Regen for a wonderful evening, celebrating the best of the clean energy sector.

We have some huge news to share with you!

TRESOC has been shortlisted β€” not for one, but TWO awards at the prestigious Regen Green Energy Awards 2026. πŸ†πŸ†

We're up for the Community Energy Initiative award for our Energy Local Totnes project – a local energy club that connects community-owned generation directly to local households, cutting bills and keeping money right here in Totnes.

And TRESOC's very own Managing Director, Dr Sally Murrall-Smith, has been individually nominated for the Net Zero Energy Pioneer award. A recognition that great projects are driven by extraordinary people.

The Regen Green Energy Awards are one of the UK's leading celebrations of the companies, technologies, and individuals shaking up the energy system and driving us towards net zero. Competing against some of the biggest names in clean energy in the country, this is a genuinely big deal for a community-owned society rooted in Totnes.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday 26th March in Bristol. Fingers very firmly crossed! 🀞

Thank you to every member, volunteer, partner, and supporter who has made Energy Local Totnes – and TRESOC – what it is today. This is your recognition too.

BIG NEWS! πŸ“’ TRESOC has secured funding from Great British Energy! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§βš‘οΈ

We are proud to be part of the historic Local Power Plan, bringing Β£1bn of investment to community energy across the UK.

With this support, we are building a 100kW solar installation at Dart Marine Park at Steamers Quay. This isn't just about solar panels – it's about people power. The energy generated will:

βœ… Power local businesses at the park
βœ… Supply our Energy Local Totnes club, cutting electricity bills for local homes
βœ… Keep money circulating in our town.

This is what the future of energy looks like: local, renewable, and community-owned. Watch this space for our community share offer coming in Summer 2026!

Energy Local Totnes is the first Energy Local club working with 100Green, and the first to combine multiple generators with both business and household customers. Starting with 300kW of hydro and adding solar alongside it, the scheme is designed to provide affordable, locally generated renewable electricity all year round.

Hydro and solar complement each other perfectly, keeping costs down in both winter and summer. With more local generation planned and a supportive partnership behind it, Energy Local Totnes is showing how flexible, community-led energy can really work.

28/01/2026

Energy Local schemes use smart technology to help people make the most of locally generated renewable power. Members use smart meters and a shared dashboard that shows when local solar and hydro are generating, both in real time and with short-term forecasts.

This makes it easy to shift everyday energy use to times when clean, low-cost power is available - like running appliances when the sun is shining or the river is flowing. With real-time feedback and smart switches, households can cut waste, save money, and use more local renewables without changing their routines.

Smarter energy, matched to local power.

How does Energy Local Totnes work? The Totnes community hydro scheme uses two Archimedes screws to generate up to 300 kW of renewable power from the river. Over a year, that’s enough electricity for around 300 homes.

The energy is used locally by a secondary school and a nearby foundry, helping cut costs, support jobs, and keep more money in the community. Any unused power is offered to local residents at a reduced rate, with surplus sold on as 100% green electricity β€” and the national grid stepping in whenever needed to ensure a reliable supply.

Clean energy, locally produced, for local benefit.

26/01/2026

Community energy schemes bring people together to take control of local renewable resources, with ownership at the heart of it. That ownership means the money generated stays in the community, supporting local people instead of being lost to multinational companies.

By keeping energy production and profits local, these schemes create a fairer, more resilient energy system, protecting communities from global price shocks while strengthening the local economy. They also inspire the next generation β€” the hydro scheme doubles as a hands-on learning space, helping local schoolchildren understand renewable energy and the power of the river.

Local energy, shared benefits, and a more sustainable future.

Amazing things happen when a community comes together to create sustainable energy for the whole town - with a little help from 100Green and Energy Local CIC.
