To my fellow engineers, when going to a new build for a first year service, although the boiler works please don’t assume it’s been wired correctly and safely. Electricians! The wires are colour coded, it can’t get any easier and to leave an exposed wire! I have no words.

🚨A Boiler Installation Disaster 🚨
I was called out to inspect a newly installed boiler (7 days old) that had no heating, the customer was informed by the installing company “there’s nothing wrong with the boiler, it’s likely an old zone valve that needs replacing. – on arrival here’s what I found:

❌ Incorrectly wired (reason for no heating, not a fault with the valve as suggested by the installing company) – unsafe and potentially damaging to the system.
❌ Flue termination fitted upside down – which would allow rain water to enter and pretty much damage the boiler and leak in to the property.
❌ Flue extension not replaced, previous manufacturers flue reused– completely non-compliant.
❌ Old controls still wired in – previous programmer and room thermostat left connected and usable although a new Hive was installed.
❌ NO Benchmark certification left behind – no commissioning, no paperwork, no peace of mind.
This is a textbook example of how not to install a boiler.

I was also informed by the customer that the installer couldn’t get the boiler working after completion and had to call out a gas safe engineer to help, which leads me to believe the original installer wasn’t gas safe registered.

Due to the pure incompetence of the installation, I had no choice but to condemn the boiler and shut it down, advising the customer to make a major complaint.

Reminder: Every new boiler installation must be carried out by a gassaferegister engineer (not just signed off by one), include a completed Benchmark and a building regulations certificate after completion.

Always use a qualified Gas Safe engineer – your safety, comfort, and warranty depend on it.
