What happens when a heat pump gets old? 👀

The original ground source heat pump at this property had been doing its job for an impressive 17 years and was still meeting the home's heating needs.

But with manufacturer support for the older IVT unit no longer available, the homeowner decided the time was right to replace it.

In its place, we've installed a new 13kW NIBE S1156 ground source heat pump, while keeping the parts of the existing system that were still perfectly good, including the slinky ground array, radiators, cylinder and buffer.

The new heat pump even sits in the same spot in the garage plant room, making this a relatively straightforward upgrade to an established ground source heating system 👍

This home in Perth is taking a joined-up approach to renewable energy.

We’ve just finished installing 18 JA Solar panels, a Tesla Powerwall 3 and Zappi EV charger, with an air source heat pump to follow.

Together, the technologies can help the homeowner:
☀️ Generate their own renewable electricity
🔋 Store surplus solar energy to use later
🚗 Use home-generated electricity towards charging an EV
🏡 Use electricity to heat their home efficiently with a heat pump

It’s a great example of how solar panels, battery storage, and a heat pump can work together as part of a more integrated home energy system.

What do you do with a big barn roof? 🌾

Turn it into a power station ⚡

This latest installation features 60 Aiko solar panels, Sigenergy battery storage and an EV charger, helping this Derbyshire farm generate and store its own renewable electricity for the farm, house and outbuildings.

Large agricultural roofs often have huge potential for solar, and projects like this show just what's possible.

Could this be another boost for heat pumps?

From 1 October, VAT is set to be removed from domestic electricity bills for six months. On its own, it won't transform household energy bills, but it's another sign that the way we power and heat our homes is changing.

Heat pumps, solar panels, battery storage and EV's all rely on electricity.

As electricity becomes more affordable and more homes generate their own power with solar, the case for low-carbon heating continues to grow.

☀️ Imagine generating most of the electricity your home needs.

That's exactly what this homeowner in New Mills set out to achieve.

We designed and installed a bespoke 5.4kWp solar PV system, paired with a Tesla Powerwall 3, helping them make better use of the electricity they generate and reduce their reliance on the grid.

With 12 high-efficiency JA Solar panels on a south-facing roof, the system is expected to:

⚡ Generate around 4,891kWh of renewable electricity each year

🔋 Achieve around 80% energy self-sufficiency thanks to battery storage

💷 Save an estimated £1,017 on electricity bills in the first year*

🌍 Reduce carbon emissions by around 1 tonne of CO₂ every year

You won't see this once the floor goes down... but you'll feel it every day ♨️

This beautifully laid underfloor heating system is the work of one of our engineer's, Louis, aka 'The UFH Master', and looking at this installation, it's easy to see why 🤩

Every loop has been carefully positioned to provide even, efficient heating throughout this new build, creating the perfect partner for a heat pump.

In a few days, it'll all disappear beneath the finished floor, hidden from view forever. But it's this craftsmanship that helps a heat pump run efficiently and keeps the home comfortable for years to come.

We think there's something almost hypnotic about it... 😵‍💫
