Shrewsbury Flood Defence Wall Receives Gunite Group Injection Solution

We are very proud to share that our Infrastructure team has successfully completed an innovative and effective construction joint waterproofing project, on a Grade II listed heritage flood defence wall in Shrewsbury.

Once it was discovered that the construction joints were leaking, a solution was required to effectively seal the joints, without drilling into the Grade II listed heritage structure. Our answer was to use innovative 'Bee Sting Injection Packers'. The packers allow the polyurethane sealing resin to be passed through a small needle aperture, allowing the injection needle to be pushed through the newly installed joint sealant. This acts as a backstop for the closed-cell, highly elastic, polyurethane resin to bond and form a permanent seal at the back of the joint, without the need for any invasive drilling.

The final outcome was well received by all project stakeholders, providing safe and long-lasting results with minimal disruption caused by the process.

Project Completion at Hazelwood Close

Working with Foster Property Maintenance for Cambridge City Council, our team have successfully carried out floor re-waterproofing works to 10 no. residential blocks at Hazelwood Close in Cambridge.

Following mechanical preparation of the stairs & walkways, we have applied Fosroc’s MMA-based Nitofloor coating system which is mesh-reinforced & finished with a decorative flake. Two primary considerations for the new floor finish were aesthetics combined with ease of cleaning hence the flake finish was preferred by the client as opposed to a coarse, ‘sanded’ finish that traps dirt.

We’re delighted with the results and look forward to working with the client again soon.

We are thrilled to share that our works at Grade II-listed Goldfinger House, Solihull, are complete!

During the 16-week programme, our works have been completed following concrete repairs and protective coatings including the use of Margel corrosion inhibitor capsules to negate the need to completely remove all of the existing protective coatings.

Celebrating 10 years at Gunite!

This week we celebrate a significant milestone for Deanna Taylor, our Purchaser at Gunite Group, as she marks the 10 year anniversary on 28th May.

A big congratulations is very well deserved, as Deanna has so far delivered a decade of highly valued service, for which we would like to thank her greatly for.

We look forward to hopefully marking many more work anniversaries for her in the future.

Gunite School Contract Going Swimmingly…

Delivering in partnership with Main Contractor – Acclaim Contracts Ltd, for the London Oratory School in Fulham, London, our work is well underway at the aged 7-18 Catholic School.

Working within the School campus’s swimming pool facilities, our expert teams are carrying out concrete repairs with the SIKA monotop system, Sika carbodur carbon fibre reinforcement, skimming and painting, to the building’s ceiling/roof area. We will also carry out render repairs, brickwork repairs and Helifix brick stitching to the pool building walls.

The contract is making fantastic progress, and is on schedule to complete next month.

Works are well underway for our Gunite Externals team at Emberton House, Olympia London.

Working with Laing O'Rourke, as part of their £600m redevelopment scheme at the iconic London Exhibition Centre – Future Olympia – our teams are currently delivering repairs to the external façade of the Emberton House building perimeter.

This phase of our scope includes surveying, grit blasting, concrete repairs with Fosroc 20mm render and Protectosil.

A big congratulations to Helen Thornhill, our Credit Control Manager, on her impressive milestone company anniversary this week.

As of 2nd April 2023, Helen has provided us with two decades of highly valued service to the company, for which we would like to take the opportunity to thank her for all her hard work, and long may it continue!

Gunite’s Head of Purchasing, Mel Channer, along with the purchasing team recently visited Essex-based JPS Group Services to expand their knowledge in plant equipment, including specialist tools and powered access solutions. Mel and Deanna had 'hands-on' experience with some of the equipment, including getting up off the ground in a scissor lift and cherry picker.

Commenting on the visit, Mel said: “It was an informative day and really useful for our collective purchasing team to meet everyone at JPS and to see and feel the plant - that we frequently hire - in action. It gave us really good insight in understanding the specialist needs of our works teams on site.”

How fitting on International Women’s Day and Women in Construction Week for Steph Harris and Ellie Dorrington to attend todays AMIP meeting addressing equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Not only is the day packed full of informative and thought-provoking talks by a number of inspiring speakers but there’s also a chance to discover the history of the venue, HMS Belfast during lunch.

Gunite Waterproofing’s works are nearing completion at our 80 New Bond Street site in West London. Working alongside the Principal Contractor and the project’s design team, we were able to offer a robust solution that fitted well with the project’s sequence of construction works as well as to meet the architect’s waterproofing design requirements.

The original waterproofing design was completed before the recent update to BS8102 code of practice for the protection of below-ground structures against water ingress. Following the 2022 update – implemented to reflect newer materials and practises – Gunite Waterproofing were able to adjust the design slightly to ensure compliance with the BS8102-2022 Code of practice.

Working closely with the Principal Contractor, our on-site team – led by Tommy-Lee Praeter – have ensured that each stage of the works was rigorously inspected and approved before handing over to follow-on trades.
