Public Statement from William Donnelly Regarding Incident at Kings Park Hotel and bar
I am William Donnelly, a local resident and business owner, and I want to share my experience at Kings Park Hotel and Bar on [date]. This is a full account of what I endured, with no details to hide—only my side of the story.
What happened:
I arrived at the premises and had an issue where I requested help, as I have a history of mental health issues, including ADHD and trauma. I made this clear to staff and police upon arrival, but my concerns were ignored.
At around 16:50, I made an emergency call to 999, which was deliberately canceled by staff at the side door downstairs bar. They responded with laughter, mockery, and dismissive gestures. This behavior is unacceptable. The CCTV footage of this incident is crucial, and I expect it to be handed over immediately. Anyone with access to this footage should produce it, as withholding it could be seen as an attempt to pervert the course of justice.
Soon after I left the bar area to go upstairs, as it was the only exit available to me. I asked staff for help to make an emergency call, but they refused. Both reception staff refused to make call too on the managements order I was even denied not to even allow me to use my charged phone or to make the call myself. I asked for my phones to be charged, as mine was nearly out of power, but this was denied. I questioned their duty of care; however, no assistance was provided. I had no option at this stage but to plead to members of the public on my behalf.
I was told to use the side door as an exit, which I found unreasonable given my vulnerable state. I requested bottled water, which was refused; I wanted to pay for it, but I was told only tap water was available.
Police arrived while I was in the reception area infront of the doors of function room . immediately I cooperated fully, explained my distressed state, and assisted officers. Despite my cooperation, I was subjected to invasive strip searches of my body, including my ge****ls, which I believe was unnecessary and unjustifiable. I will be formally requesting a full report on this procedure. as I have no history at all of drug use or conviction on drug abuse . I was so concerned on ADHD tablets and said exactly its a controled drug and it was important to have this not found and then questioned.
I was detained and taken into custody, during which I was accused of shouting and swearing at customers—something I categorically deny. I was in a vulnerable state, and I explained this to the officers what had happened why I was asking for help . The police even asked if it was me who made the call initally which I said yes to , I asked if the call that was made was from the public or the staff this was not answered and I have no clue who did actually make the call. I was informed I had committed a breach of the peace and was taken into a cell. I felt humiliated, embarrassed, and disrespected throughout.
Training
I am a Gas Safe registered professional with 22 years of extensive training and experience in the industry. Throughout my career, I have received top-level training from some of the biggest and most reputable energy companies, including Scottish Gas as a contractor, as well as specialized training with AA Home Emergency Response.
My customer service skills are at the highest standard, developed over many years of hands-on experience and continuous professional development. As the director of my company, I regard the duty of care as my highest priority—ensuring the safety of the public, vulnerable persons, staff, and clients is at the core of my responsibilities.
I am committed to maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all legal requirements and best practices, including regular updates to HSE guidelines. This ensures that my company operates within the highest standards of safety, responsibility, and compliance, safeguarding everyone involved.
Kings park hotel you did not uphold on your duty to my circumstances which as I said during the crisis I made clear to you in the danger as expressed when you ignored this and refused to assist in any way I said then I would make this public and report to as I see as my duty of care . You may not care for your customers . I do .
My concerns:
The treatment I received—refusal of emergency assistance, denial of basic needs, invasive searches, and neglect—constitutes a serious breach of duty of care.
There is a real concern that crucial evidence, including CCTV footage and call recordings, may be deliberately withheld. Such actions could be considered an attempt to pervert the course of justice, which I will challenge legally if necessary.
The entire experience has caused me significant emotional distress and trauma, which I will not let go unnoticed.
This all happened 7 days ago, and the fact that management allowed me to be in custody is nothing short of disgraceful. Society should not accept this as an outcome—this is a horrible, disgusting way to treat someone in distress. Their neglect and inaction at that moment did not make the issue disappear; in fact, it exposes a much bigger problem.
My rights and next steps:
I will not stop in my right to express this experience in any way necessary to make other customers, local residents, and families aware of what happened. I believe transparency is essential, and I am prepared to share my story through any lawful means, including social media, protests, or other channels.
Feeling:
I lay in that cell feeling genuine despair and sadness, overwhelmed by a sense of helplessness. This is a stark reflection of societal failure and a breach of basic human decency. I wanted rescue, support, and understanding. Just last week, I was on a school gym mat with noodles for dinner, simply seeking help—yet I was treated in a way that caused me to question the humanity of those involved.
A way forward:
I suggest that an apology from the company would be an acceptable way to begin addressing this matter. Accountability and acknowledgment are crucial to moving forward and restoring trust.
I strongly suggest that the company undertake a full risk assessment in line with HSE guidelines. This should include reviewing staff training on duty of care, GDPR, and how to properly support vulnerable individuals. This incident must serve as a wake-up call to prevent such neglect from happening again
Conclusion:
This is my honest account. I am open to transparency and expect full cooperation regarding CCTV footage, call recordings, and your internal procedures. I hope your management will reflect on this incident . I am committed to making sure this incident is fully known, and that accountability is achieved. No one should have to endure what I did—seeking help should never lead to despair, humiliation, or the loss of dignity.
I want to emphasize: I will continue to exercise my right to express this experience and to protect others—especially customers, residents, and families—from similar neglect. Transparency, justice, and proper care are what I seek.
