This new cellar cooler is sure to be a show stopper! 🎭

Last week we were hard at work installing this new cellar cooling system at Crewe Lyceum Theatre. This job involved the removal of their old tired unit and replacing it with this shiny J&E Hall, just in time for the busy Summer season! This means that anyone going to see any of the wide range of excellent shows at the Lyceum over this summer, will be safe in the knowledge that your pint is chilled to perfection by yours truly!

We have been keeping a secret from you all…all will be revealed at the end of this post. 🤫

Recently we supplied this three door bottle fridge to Olton Park Cricket Club after their previous one had stopped working. We made the process straight forward, all they had to do was say go and it was with them within 2 days. We sorted the rest!

It’s shiny, efficient, reliable and paired with 2 years parts and labour warranty, what more could you want?

We’ve had air-conditioning enquiries going through the roof recently, and this client in particular is over the moon that they managed to get theirs installed just in time for the heatwave. It brings us so much joy at Big Green Refrigeration, knowing that we make the really hot summer days a lot more manageable for households around Cheshire and the North West. 🏠

With this project nicely wrapped up, we are already onto the next enquiry on the Kingsbourne Estate in Nantwich. Each property brings its own set of layout and structural challenges, but we are always prepared to tailor the set up to suit your needs and layout. We’ve had air-conditioning enquiries going through the roof recently, and this client in particular is over the moon that they managed to get theirs installed just in time for the heatwave. This is another example of the wide range of jobs we cover! 🌊

We attended this beautiful swimming pool in Knutsford after the client had noticed that the heat pumps weren't heating their pool properly. Immediately, we got to work with a pressure test on the system. This sort of issue will more likely than not, coincide with a leak, so the first course of action was to find it. We followed our usual techniques - a visual leak test and an electronic leak test, but alas, no prevail.

We were unable to find a leak on the system, indicating either there was no leak in the system, or a fault elsewhere. The system was pressure tested, to which it held its pressure, so on this occasion the swimming pool heat pump has been recommissioned and UV dye has been added to the system. Adding UV dye to a refrigeration system is a final resort scenario that we only use if an electronic leak test or a pressure test has yielded no results. At a later date we will carry out a UV test to look for traces of a leak. In the meantime the client is up and running ready for the summer ahead to enjoy their beautiful swimming pool! ☀

This is one of those rare occasions where the switching it off and on again method may not be successful 😳

The client, Shavington fish bar, reported that their double door Foster refrigerator wasn’t cooling properly. Upon inspection, we discovered that a failed compressor relay on the controller had completely fried the main circuit board. When we contacted Foster directly, we were able to source a replacement controller kit. Though this was an OEM fix, not a direct replacement, it still worked effectively and the cabinet was up and running again in no time! All probes and the digital display were also replaced along with the slave module that had been burnt out.

As refrigeration engineers, we understand the importance of speedy responses to breakdowns, to limit the impact on businesses and make sure you’re back up and running ASAP.

We were called out to Shrewsbury after Angel Refrigeration recommended us to a longstanding client of theirs. This company produces a lot of dry aged meat, so when one of the machines was starting to show faults, it was time to call in the experts!

Angel Refrigeration is a leading UK distributor of Everlasting refrigeration and catering products. When it comes to dry aging meat cabinets, due to the complexity of the cabinets, not just any old refrigeration company will do. Angel Refrigeration recommended us to their clients, knowing we are reliable, fast acting and efficient!

Dry‑age meat cabinets are a complex bit of refrigeration equipment and work by maintaining stable temperature, humidity, and airflow so meat can safely lose moisture and intensify in flavour. They create the same controlled environment traditionally found in curing cellars, which is why they’re mainly used for salami, pepperoni, and other charcuterie.

When we attended site, we found the system was short of refrigerant, meaning a leak was likely to be present in the system. Once the leak was found, we were able to braze and repair the leak on site, and recommission the system all in one afternoon. A £15,000 cabinet went from useless to up and running in less than 4 hours. A job well done for us, and a quick and cost effective fix for the client!

We are in peak install mode! 🔧

Quite a few of our customers are choosing now to get their air-conditioning units installed while the weather's warm! We have been installing left, right and centre and this is one is a prime example.

These pictures are taken from the office of an existing client that has been with us for some time. These customers, from a busy business park in Crewe, have chosen this year to upgrade one of their old air-con systems, to this shiny, new, efficient one. This system has effective heating and cooling capabilities, making it perfect for all year round. Some eagle eyed viewers may even notice a shiny, new sticker too! 👀

💭Everyone now cast their minds back to the late 90’s/early 2000s 💾

The Spice Girls were in the charts, Tamagotchi's were all the rage, going online meant going to the family computer room or to the library, and air-conditioning units looked like this.

A client of ours had their existing air-conditioning unit installed many moons ago. Due to the style of the unit and the position it was installed in, it didn’t run very efficiently, especially as this unit is situated in a bungalow. Bungalows tend to get quite hot due to having large glass windows and only one floor for the heat to disperse.

We provided the correct type of unit from Toshiba, and installed it in the same familiar place. This new floor console style unit will ensure the airflow around the room is highly efficient. Providing effective cooling in the warmer months, and heating in the colder months.

Now is the prime time to book an air conditioning installation. Our diary is filling up nicely but we still have some availability before Summer! ☀️

Time for a bit of Spring Cleaning! 🐣⏱️

Part of our PPM service includes a deep clean of your air-conditioning unit. This involves a thorough clean of the unit itself, the outdoor unit, and a clean of the internal components - which involves the air filter. 🧼

After prolonged use, air filters can become blocked with dust and other airborne particles. When this happens, the unit may struggle to heat or cool effectively. An air filter that’s been blocked for too long can cause avoidable damage to the air-conditioning unit and significant compressor issues that can be costly to fix.

It won’t be long before this equipment is in top working order again, preparing to work through the Summer. If you want a trouble free Summer, now is the time to get your PPM’s booked in. The proof is in the pudding, the before and after’s are outstanding, not just aesthetically, but for longevity!

So much of what we do over Summer- in terms of breakdowns and repairs - is completely avoidable. We understand company budgets can be tight, and services aren’t always viable. However, a routine maintenance is an investment and, in the long-term, will save the equipment and your wallet!

A special mention to our engineer Wayne, who especially enjoyed this PPM visit, with him being a car enthusiast, he loves anything with a bit of engineering behind it! 🚗
