"The Global Justice Report finds that a habitable, equal 21st century is materially possible. [...] What stands in the way is not technical impossibility but political choice and the hard but crucial work of building a coalition behind it."

Global report provides an alternative to climate breakdown, political extremism and economic tensions

Universities are playing a government and public-funded role in de-risking military R&D while engineering graduates working on renewables are funnelled into the arms industry.

“Our job is to ask questions that are critical of the operation of power.”

Prof. Anna Stavrianakis argues that universities are not neutral about war or militarism and that students and academics have a duty to challenge them.

Professor Anna Stavrianakis (University of Sussex) speaking at a webinar on 'Militarism and the politics of education' hosted by SGR on 26 May 2026.

Global military spending hit $2.9 trillion in 2026. As industry profits surge, universities are being drawn deeper into the military-industrial complex, trading ethical oversight for funding.

Demilitarise Education has exposed over £2.5 bn in arms partnerships across UK universities in the last 8 years.

In that time, campaigners have worked tirelessly to sever university ties with the arms industry.

Today, 82% of UK universities no longer invest in arms companies.

Jinsella Kennaway joined our latest workshop to share how sustained advocacy is shifting policies towards arms exclusion, and what still needs to change to build an education system that champions peace, not war.

“This is what climate change feels like”

The UK could break the May heat record again, as the number of days in the UK above 28C has more than doubled and the number of days above 30C has more than trebled in the most recent decade, compared with the 1961-1990 average.

It comes after the UK recorded its hottest May day on record as part of London reached 34.8C on Monday.

"Everybody in football loses by not tackling this."⚽

Norway midfielder Morten Thorsby on the need to address the risk of extreme heat at this year’s FIFA World Cup and to “take serious climate action”, which includes severing ties to fossil fuel sponsors.

The comments follow a letter signed by players, and another letter signed by Scientists for Global Responsibility and leading scientists and medical professionals, warning of the dangers to player and spectator safety at World Cup 2026 and the inadequacy of current measures to address this.

Football is increasingly under threat from climate change, and while FIFA ‘talk a good game’ on climate, their actions are increasingly undermining their own efforts to ensure everyone can enjoy the beautiful game.

Norway midfielder Morten Thorsby says "everybody in football loses" if Fifa does not do more to protect players from extreme heat at the World Cup.
