One thing I’ve learned from working with older properties: never assume what’s behind the walls or under the ground. 🏠🔍
A house can look perfectly solid until you start opening it up. Old alterations, shallow foundations, unsupported masonry or drainage in the wrong place — these are the things that can turn a straightforward extension into an expensive job very quickly. ⚠️💷
Sometimes extending makes perfect sense. Other times, once you properly assess the existing structure and what you want to achieve, demolition and rebuilding is simply the better investment. 🏗️
The important part is making that decision before the work starts, not halfway through it. 📐✅
A good project isn’t one with no problems. It’s one where most of the problems were identified before they became expensive.
