Here's a project underway to make the most of your typical 'box room', where the stairbox/bulkhead protrudes in through one corner of the floor.

I've still got drawers to fit beneath the bed, once they've been painted - getting everything painted at once is a challenge in a small workshop. But the clients are already over the moon at how much better this will be for their daughter.

One of the smaller jobs from last week was to replace what was a very heavy loft hatch door, made from 18mm MDF. It also wasn't very secure - like a job left unfinished by the previous homeowners.

I replaced it with a thin plywood, frames construction and fitted a latch that means it won't land on anyone's head!

At this property in Clevedon, the previous owners had fitted a sliding door the same width as the opening of the door lining... Meaning that, when you stood in the right (wrong), you could accidentally spy on someone sat on the toilet!

I added timber to reduce the opening and then architrave on each side, to tidy up.

A new hardwood door and frame, supplied and fitted to this cottage in Somerset. Door was fully coated by the client, prior to my arrival and fitting. New door furniture included.

Removing the old frame was a bit of a challenge, as was fitting the new and having to tuck it in behind the external render. But perhaps the biggest challenge was working in that strong afternoon sun! ☀️

With a child on the new, this client wanted the space over the stairs bulkhead in this bedroom, utilised for better storage (always at a premium in more affordable houses).

I started by dismantling the wardrobe that had stood infront, then recycling what parts I could, to create shelving and a hanging space.

New material was provided for the two doors and the client then asked for a mirror to be fixed to one door.

It's the kind of job that was to fit within a budget and they can now redecorate the room before their child is born and ready to move in.

All made from moisture-resistant MDF and fitted with full extension drawer runners.

Here's a bit of boxing in, to enclose the pipes and space surrounding a newly installed toilet. They'd asked for concealed storage either side of the cistern, with access to the stopcock, of course, lower down.

Another job here, was to fit a bath panel upstairs.
