Located along the banks of the River Ouse in York, we’re proud to have made these three striking Corten steel viewing frames which form part of the "York Rivers Trail: The rivers and us", created as part of the Ousewem project. The trail invites people to explore the River Ouse through art, storytelling and digital experiences, encouraging us to think about how water shapes our city, our landscapes and our communities.
These frames are the result of what started as an idea within The Artery, who were tasked with finding a creative way to tell the stories of the River Ouse.
It was a pleasure to work alongside my other half, Sarah Schiewe Ceramics , to bring this vision to life. Together we designed and created three artworks that invite people to pause, reflect and enjoy the river from a different perspective. Check them out in Tower Gardens and by Scarborough Bridge.
It's been a privilege to contribute to a project that connects creativity, heritage and the environment, helping people engage with the River Ouse in a meaningful and lasting way.
Ousewem is led by City of York Council in close collaboration with North Yorkshire Council alongside our delivery partners JBA, Natural England, Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust and the University of York.
