The Pesi Team recently completed a Geotechnical Site Investigation and Instrument Installation Works for the Tailing Storage Facility (TSF) embankment raise in one of the Tier 1 Gold Mine in Ghana. The project scope of work includes:

- Borehole drilling
- Insitu testing and sampling
- Borehole sample (soil &;rock) logging
- Installation of standpipes
- Installation of multilevel Vibrating Wire Piezometer (VWP)
- Vertical Shape Arrays ( SAAV)
- Environmental Monitoring Well
- Factual reporting

The drilling works in nvolved drilling through mine waste rock used in the construction of the embankment at selected locations in the North, East, South and West embankment, through the foundation material (soil) to the termination depth in natural ground. The thickness of wasterock ranged between 0.5m to 65.0m below the embankment crest. Insitu testing and sampling were conducted in foundation material to a depth of refusal in natural ground in each Borehole. Upon completion of drilling, the boreholes monitoring instruments were installed in all boreholes to monitor the stability of the tailings dam embankment.

Drilling campaign of this nature can turn out a driller's nightmare because of the challenge drilling through waste rock posses. The approach requires switching between multiple drilling methods depending on the subsurface material and ground condition. Our team of safety conscious and highly committed personnel completed all boreholes and Installation of instrument in record time.
