🚧😂 Monday Structural Engineering Reality Check

Did you know… most buildings don’t fail on Monday because of ghosts 👻

They fail because somebody said:
👉 “Master, just break this wall small… we need more space.” 😅

Then suddenly:
🧱 A load-bearing wall becomes decoration
🏠 A beam becomes “just concrete there”
📉 And the whole building starts doing yoga poses it was never designed for.

Your house is not a sachet water stand. You can’t keep removing supports and expect balance.

💡 Engineering Truth:
Some walls carry loads, not paint. Before demolishing any wall, call a structural engineer — not your cousin who “knows masonry work.” 😭

📅 Monday Motivation:
Start the week by removing bad habits, not columns.

Question of the Week?
What’s the funniest dangerous renovation advice you’ve heard before? 😅

Structural Engineering Trivia

Did you know… your house is basically on a strict weight-loss program?

Every beam and column is constantly saying:
👉 “Please, don’t add anything I didn’t sign up for!”

So when you decide to:
🧱 Add an extra water tank
🏗️ Put blocks on the roof “just in case”
🚧 Convert your storey building into “just one more floor”

Your structure is like:

😩 “Ah! This was not in the original design oo!”

💡 Engineering Truth:

Buildings are designed for specific loads — not surprises.

Overloading them is like asking a taxi meant for 4 people to carry 12 passengers and a goat 🐐.

What’s the heaviest “extra load” you’ve ever seen someone add to a building? 😅

The Data is In: 2026 is the Year to Finish Your Building! 🏗️📉

If you paused your construction project because of high costs, it’s time to pick up your tools. The latest report from the Ghana Statistical Service shows that building inflation is cooling down significantly.

At The Adanse-Pipim Group, we track these figures so you can build smarter. Here is why you should resume your project today:

Lowest Inflation in Over a Year: Building inflation dropped to 4.4% in December 2025. This is a massive relief compared to the 22.6% we saw in December 2024.
8 Months of Consistent Decline: We have seen eight straight months of falling year-on-year inflation, meaning the market is stabilizing.

Major Savings on Materials: Overall material prices decreased by 0.1% just last month. Even better, the cost of Reinforcement (-7.3%) and Cement (-5.1%) actually dropped compared to last year!

Labour Costs are Easing: Year-on-year labour inflation fell to 10.7% in December, down from 12.7% in November.

Our Professional Recommendation:

The GSS advises that with material prices stabilizing, now is the time to lock in prices and secure contracts before any potential rebound.

Don't let your site sit idle while the numbers are in your favor. Let’s use this "inflation holiday" to get your project to the roofing stage!

When "More Concrete" is a Structural Red Flag 🚩

On-site today, I observed a shear wall where the concrete cover increased from the standard 50mm to 150mm after pouring. In engineering, "thicker" isn't always "stronger."

Why excessive cover (like 150mm) is dangerous:

Surface Cracking: Thick unreinforced concrete is brittle and prone to deep shrinkage cracks, which eventually expose your steel to corrosion.

Dead Weight: Extra concrete adds massive, unplanned weight to your beams and foundations that they weren't designed to carry.

Structural Inefficiency: It shifts the "effective depth" of your reinforcement, making the wall less capable of resisting bending and earthquake loads.

The Adanse-Pipim Lesson:

Precision is key. Standard cover (typically 40mm–50mm) ensures your steel and concrete work as a single, strong unit. Using proper spacer blocks and professional supervision prevents these "silent" structural failures.

Don't let poor site habits ruin your investment.
