The second day of the PROSSIVA Capacity Building Programme at the CSIR-Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI) shifted from the classroom to the field, giving participants the opportunity to put theory into practice.

The morning practical sessions focused on improved seed yam production technologies, including:
🌱 Leaf-Bud Cutting (LBC) technology
🌱 Minituber and Minisett technologies
🌱 Postharvest management practices for quality seed yam production

Watching participants engage directly with these technologies has been a reminder that practical experience is essential for building confidence and improving adoption. It is in the field that concepts become skills and innovation becomes applicable.

The programme continues this afternoon with sessions on seed enterprise performance, improved yam varieties, seed certification, and digital seed tracking systems, further strengthening participants’ technical and business capacities.

As the programme progresses, it is encouraging to see researchers, seed entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders learning together and sharing experiences that will contribute to a stronger and more resilient seed system.

Today, the CSIR-Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI) hosted the first day of a two-day capacity-building training under the PROSSIVA Project, bringing together Commercial Seed Companies, Certified Seed Entrepreneurs, and Early Generation Seed Producers.

The training is providing participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in:
✅ Good Agronomic Practices (GAP)
✅ Improved seed yam propagation technologies
✅ Postharvest handling and storage
✅ Seed certification and quality assurance
✅ Digital seed tracking and record keeping
✅ Seed business development

Beyond the classroom sessions, the programme is creating an opportunity for researchers, seed entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders to exchange ideas, share experiences, and strengthen partnerships that will contribute to a more resilient seed yam sector in Ghana.

Together, we are building stronger seed systems, empowering seed producers, and supporting sustainable agricultural development.

A successful Day at our Nyankpala headquarters near Tamale! The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research - Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI) hosted the Annual Review and Steering Committee meeting for the RICOWAS project. The high-level meeting evaluated our 2025 milestones and finalized strategic deployment plans for the 2026 implementation cycle.

Supported by the Adaptation Fund through the Sahara and Sahel Observatory, this 4-year, 13-country initiative improves smallholder rice production resilience by promoting the System of Rice Intensification (SRI). In Ghana, the project spans 22 districts across 7 regions.

Key National Impact Metrics:
3,700+ rice farmers trained in climate-smart agricultural practices.
84 demonstration fields established nationwide to scale up SRI technologies.
52 master trainers equipped to transfer sustainable technologies to 5,000 more farmers.
1,380 farmers trained in the Northern Zone across 30+ communities.
2,400+ farmers engaged in the Southern Zone (over half of whom are women).

As our Director, Dr. Francis K**i, noted, these encouraging field results are vital to boosting domestic rice production, reducing food inflation, and securing national food security.
