As part of efforts to enhance quality teaching and learning, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has officially commenced construction of a 1,500-seater multi-purpose Assembly Hall for the New Edubiase Senior High School in the Adansi South District, under its 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP).

The project, expected to be completed within 17 months, will feature an integrated administrative complex, conference room, staff common room, faculty offices, sound room, gatehouse, and other ancillary facilities.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Director of Sustainability Management at the Obuasi Mine, Edmund Oduro Agyei, reaffirmed the Mine’s commitment to promoting access to quality education and sustainable community development through impactful investments.

The Edubiasehene, Guahyia Oduropanin Birikorang, commended the Mine for extending development support beyond its immediate operational communities and investing in the future of education in the Adansi South District.

School authorities also lauded the Mine for the intervention, describing the project as timely and transformational, which will significantly improve academic and extracurricular activities while creating a more conducive learning environment for students and staff.

The intervention is expected to significantly improve the teaching and learning environment at the school, enhance its capacity to host examinations and major events, support academic excellence and student development, and strengthen educational infrastructure within the Adansi South District.

All roads lead to New Edubiase on Tuesday, 19 May, as AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine holds a groundbreaking ceremony to commence the construction of an Assembly Hall for the New Edubiase Senior High School in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region.

When completed, the Assembly Hall will serve as a modern multi-purpose facility for academic, social, and official school activities, providing students and staff of the school with a conducive space for assemblies, examinations, seminars, cultural events, and other important gatherings.

The project is expected to enhance teaching and learning while contributing to improved educational infrastructure; a key commitment under the Obuasi Mine’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP).

The energy and enthusiasm continue to build as participants dive deeper into the world of STEM! Day Two of the STEM Bootcamp for public school STEM clubs in Obuasi was packed with hands-on learning, creativity, and collaboration.

Students explored key concepts in coding, robotics, and problem-solving, working in teams to design and program innovative solutions. The sessions encouraged critical thinking and sparked curiosity, as participants began turning ideas into practical projects.

With guidance from dedicated facilitators, the learners are gaining confidence and developing skills that will shape them into the innovators of tomorrow.

The journey is just getting started and the excitement is only growing!

The 5-Day STEM Bootcamp for Basic School STEM Clubs officially commenced with a vibrant opening ceremony at the Obuasi Robotics Training Centre under the theme “Building Tomorrow’s Innovators.”

The event brought together 36 selected pupils, coordinators, facilitators, and key stakeholders from Obuasi East and Obuasi Municipal, marking the start of an exciting and impactful learning journey. Participants will be engaged in hands-on activities in areas such as coding, robotics design and programming, gear systems, and motion, among others.

The Community Relations Manager of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, Edmund Oduro Agyei, together with the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, George Alfred Koomson, graced the occasion to officially open the programme and welcome participants. The bootcamp is designed to reignite creative thinking, promote innovation, and strengthen students’ problem-solving skills.

The ceremony set an inspiring tone for the days ahead, with students expressing enthusiasm and eagerness to explore new ideas and technologies. It also reaffirmed the programme’s objective of bridging the gap between classroom theory and practical STEM application, while aligning with AngloGold Ashanti’s purpose of mining to empower people and advance societies.

Building Tomorrow’s Innovators Starts Now!

From Monday 13th – Friday 17th April 2026, young minds from STEM Clubs across basic schools in Obuasi will come together for an exciting 5-Day STEM Bootcamp at the Obuasi Robotics Centre constructed by the Obuasi Mine for the Obuasi community.

This hands-on experience will empower pupils (ages 9–15) with skills in coding, robotics, electronics, and innovation, while nurturing creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Led by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, in partnership with GES, AA Engineering and construction works, Winniemed Enterprise, Cofkans and DreamOval Foundation, the bootcamp is designed to inspire the next generation of innovators, especially encouraging greater participation of girls in STEM.
