Our industry research partner, the Crete Aviation Observatory - CAO, published the Empirical Research and Aviation Data Analysis at Chania International Airport “Daskalogiannis”, the 2025 Edition

The initiative is conducted by the PhD candidate of the Data Science Laboratory, Dimitris Zopounidis, combining empirical aviation research with data-driven industry analysis.

The Data Science Laboratory - DS Lab (Technical University of Crete) participated in a discussion on Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics and Data Science on naftemporiki.gr TV, through its researcher Dimitris Zopounidis.

The discussion focused on the role of AI in supporting data-driven decision-making and shaping modern business strategy. One of the key takeaways is that Artificial Intelligence does not replace human judgment, yet it enhances it.

The Data Science Laboratory - DS Lab of the Πολυτεχνείο Κρήτης / Technical University of Crete actively participated in the annual international academic meeting held in Chania, organized in collaboration with the Financial Engineering Laboratory - FELab and the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences of Spain (RACEF).

Within the framework of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Technical University of Crete and RACEF, establishing a structured basis for future collaboration in research, academic exchange, and joint initiatives in key domains such as Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, and Data Science.

Members of the Data Science Laboratory - DS Lab, Dimitris Zopounidis and Ioanna Atsalaki, contributed to the scientific program with research presentations addressing the role of Artificial Intelligence in economic systems and regional development, highlighting the importance of data-driven approaches in shaping sustainable and inclusive growth.

The participation of the Laboratory in this high-level international meeting reinforces its commitment to advancing research excellence and fostering impactful collaborations that bridge data, technology, and real-world decision-making.

International Meeting of Leading Academics and Scientists in Chania on Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies for Economic Development

In a high-level international scientific setting, Chania hosts (April 22–23) a major gathering of academics from around the world, organized in collaboration between the Financial Engineering Laboratory and the Data Science Laboratory of the Technical University of Crete and the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences. Representing Greece within the Academy is Professor Constantin Zopounidis.

The meeting brings together leading researchers, including personalities connected to the Nobel ecosystem. From Greece, participants include Dimitris Zopounidis, George Atsalakis, Christos Lemonakis, Ioanna Atsalaki, and Giorgos Angelakis.

The focus areas include Business Analytics, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence, with applications across banking, business, aviation industry, SMEs, public economics, and regional development.

The meeting highlights the critical role of AI as a strategic driver shaping competitiveness, productivity, and sustainable development, emphasizing the need for international collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches.

The conference runs from April 22–26 at a hotel in Chania, including parallel activities and visits in Chania and Heraklion.
