Hong Kong Pyrolsys Team Visits China's "Artificial Sun" Facility in Hefei
A delegation from Hong Kong Pyrolsys visited the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP) in Hefei to tour Chinese Circulator-3 facility. This facility has successfully achieved a plasma ion temperature of 150 million degrees Celsius and, for the first time, realized temperatures for both atomic nuclei and electrons exceeding 100 million degrees Celsius. This milestone marks a critical step towards high-performance fusion plasma operation and stands as a tribute to the dedication of generations of scientists and the nation's strength.
Near-Unlimited Fuel
The primary fuel, deuterium, can be extracted from seawater. The energy released from the fusion of deuterium found in one liter of seawater is equivalent to that of 300 liters of gasoline. The Earth's reserves of deuterium are sufficient to meet human energy needs for tens of billions of years.
Clean and Safe
The fusion reaction does not produce long-lived, high-level radioactive waste; its main by-product is the inert gas helium. Furthermore, due to the extremely demanding conditions required for the reaction to occur, any equipment failure would cause the reaction to terminate naturally, making Chernobyl-like meltdown accidents essentially impossible.
Extremely High Energy Density
Fusion's energy density is millions of times greater than that of fossil fuels. The energy generated from just a few grams of fusion fuel is enough to meet a household's electricity demand for decades.
