On August 11, 2025, the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health 醫衞大數據深析實驗室 and HKU Public Health co-organised a seminar titled "Genomic Surveillance of Emerging Viruses: A Bioinformatics Perspective."

Professor Yu-Nong Gong, Assistant Professor at Chang Gung University, Taiwan, delivered a presentation on the role of bioinformatics in monitoring the evolution and transmission of emerging viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and enteroviruses. He outlined the use of computational methods to track viral evolution and transmission in real time, and discussed the importance of scalable analysis pipelines and unbiased metagenomic approaches in enhancing detection and response to novel viral threats.

The seminar concluded with thanks to all participants for their attendance and engagement.

On June 10, 2025, the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health 醫衞大數據深析實驗室 and the HKU School of Biomedical Sciences co-organised a seminar titled “Computational Methods for Cell Identity and Cell-fate Decisions.”

We were honoured to host Pengyi Yang, Ph.D., Associate Professor in the School of Mathematics & Statistics at The University of Sydney and Co-Principal Investigator of the D24H, who shared his team’s pioneering work on computational methodologies that leverage single-cell omics and spatial transcriptomics data. His talk gave insights into how these tools are being used to uncover molecular networks that underlie cell identity and predict cell-fate outcomes, offering powerful new perspectives in developmental biology and disease modelling.

On May 28, 2025, Professor Joseph Wu, Managing Director of the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health 醫衞大數據深析實驗室 (D²4H), delivered a talk at the Hospital Authority Convention 2025 hosted by the 醫院管理局 Hospital Authority.
