Serious question for the builders and engineers here.

350 cavity wall with full-bed stone finish and a 6.4m gable above.
Would you be happy building that on a 350mm wide footing?

I wasn't. Raised my concerns and ultimately walked away from the job.
Maybe some will say I'm too stubborn, but if something goes wrong years down the line, it's not the contractor standing there explaining it — it's often the lads who built it.

Interested to hear other opinions. Would you build it or not?

A good question i got asked today; Why do you put pointing mortar between the stone i see some with none why is that?

Answer;

The adhesive all used is same just different brands...so to mix it we use water and rain breaks it down over time and moisture to protect it from the elements you use pointing mortar which doesnt get broken down by water or moisture it also provides a frost protection.

So imagine winter a wet day and then freezing at night that rain soaked in & behind the stone has freeze thaw action now and it will come loose.

Installs must be done 100% correct otherwise it will fail overtime. Its not the stone its the fitting & the products used.

This is natural stone liscannor cut to do stone cladding.

Took a week’s holidays to Spain to refresh the soul & body.

Update:

This week hopefully 🙏 we’re finishing up a job in Galway at ATU College.

Over the last few weeks we priced:

Timber frame blockwork

A new build with all the blockwork & stonework

A few boundary walls in blockwork

Only one job has been booked in so far,
