This rain is a real test when you're aiming for a quality finish.

Coloured mortar can easily run into the stone, so you've always got to keep the covers close by and say a wee prayer or two that it doesn't harden while it's raining! 😄

That's when the pressure is really on. It's all part of the job, but taking shortcuts isn't an option if you want a finish that lasts.

Looking forward to seeing the finished look once the caps are on.

Always remember, stonemasonry is a finishing trade. Quality, attention to detail, and having a good eye for the finished result are worth far more than how many stones you can build in a day.

Anyone can rush a job, but it's the final finish that people remember.

Back in my homeland to complete this beautiful sandstone cladding project on a challenging painted surface.

Many would simply stick the stone on and walk away, but that's not how we work. We take the time to prepare the surface properly because we believe quality work should be built once and built to last for years.

⚠️ Painted Walls & Stone Cladding – Don't Make This Mistake

We often see people asking if they can fix stone cladding directly onto painted walls.

The simple answer is no.

It doesn't matter what brand of adhesive you use. The adhesive may stick to the paint, but the paint prevents it from bonding properly to the blockwork or masonry underneath. You're only as strong as the surface you're fixing to.

With the weight of natural stone and exposure to the elements, the paint can eventually fail, causing the stone to come away from the wall.

✅ The correct method is to mechanically fix reinforcing mesh to the wall using suitable plugs and fixings. This provides additional support and gives the adhesive the best possible surface to bond to.

Good preparation isn't an extra—it's an essential part of a quality installation.
