At the Hanita Lenses booth, visitors explored our complete IOL portfolio, including Intensity®, Extend™, FullRange™, and SeeLens™ HP, and engaged with our team on clinical experience, patient needs, and advances in cataract and refractive surgery.

A key highlight of the booth was the JETT® live demonstrations led by Dr. Vicente Rodríguez, Global Medical Director of JETT Devices, who introduced visitors to the JETT® technology in treating dry eye disease, highlighting its role in achieving the best outcomes with multifocals such as the Intensity®.

Returning to Seoul, Prof. Auffarth continued the Hanita Lenses Lecture Tour 2026 with a series of scientific exchanges with some of South Korea’s leading ophthalmologists.

The program included visits to Yes Eye Clinic (Dr. Youngsub Eom), Gangnam Grand Eye Clinic (Dr. Kwan Hoon Lee and Dr. Young Seob Lee), First Samsung Eye Clinic (Dr. Sung Ho Choi and Dr. Sung Jin Na), Glory Seoul Eye Clinic 글로리서울안과 (Dr. O Sub Koo), Lasik Surgery in Korea Bright Eye Clinic (Dr. Sung Woo Ha), GS Eye Clinic 지에스안과(Dr. Mu Yan Kim and Dr. Sung Wook Park), and Keye Eye Clinic (Dr. Hyung Gu Kwon), providing valuable opportunities to discuss clinical workflows, patient expectations, surgical technologies, and the evolving landscape of premium cataract surgery.

Beyond the scientific discussions, the tour offered unique insight into South Korea’s advanced ophthalmic ecosystem. The concentration of specialized eye clinics, innovative patient pathways, and the growing number of international patients seeking treatment in Korea highlighted the country's position as a leader in premium eye care.

- South Korea, Part 1

Following the Japan leg of the tour, Prof. Gerd Auffarth continued the Hanita Lenses Lecture Tour 2026 across South Korea, participating in scientific symposiums and visiting leading ophthalmic centers.

Throughout the tour, discussions focused on the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL, advances in refractive cataract surgery, ocular surface disease management, and the integration of dry eye treatment into premium IOL care.

📍 Seoul: The Korea program opened in Seoul at the 25th Catholic Refractive Surgery Symposium at 가톨릭대학교 The Catholic University of Korea.

Invited by Prof. Ho S*k Hwang and moderated by Prof. Chul Young Choi and Prof. Lee Do Hyung, the session brought together leading surgeons to discuss the latest developments in presbyopia-correcting IOLs, including Hanita’s Intensity® Pentafocal IOL.

📍 Cheonan: The tour continued with a visit to the Cheonan Kim Eye clinic, where Prof. Auffarth met with Dr. Do-hyun Jung to discuss clinical experience with the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL and the evolving role of premium IOLs in modern cataract practice.

📍 Gwangju: At the Central Yoon Gil-Joong Eye Clinic of Dr. Giljoon Yoon, Prof. Auffarth delivered a lecture on ocular surface disease management, dry eye treatment, and the importance of optimizing the ocular surface to maximize premium IOL outcomes. The discussion highlighted JETT® plasma technology and its role in achieving the best possible outcomes with premium IOLs such as the Intensity®.

📍 Busan: Prof. Auffarth visited the Kim Wan Soo Eye Clinic of Dr. Wan Soo Kim and the GM St. Mary’s Eye Clinic of Dr. Jin Yong Park, exchanging perspectives on cataract surgery practice patterns and the differences between the German and Korean healthcare systems.

The day concluded with a well-attended symposium chaired by Prof. Jong-Soo Lee. Together with Dr. Junhun Lee, discussions focused on the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL and the critical role of dry eye management in refractive cataract surgery.

This year, the Hanita Lenses Lecture Tour brought Prof. Gerd Auffarth to Japan and South Korea for a series of discussions on the evolving landscape of refractive cataract surgery, highlighting clinical experience with the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL, advanced optical concepts, and the role of ocular surface management in maximizing premium IOL outcomes.

These are the highlights of the tour in Japan:

Tokyo: The tour began with a visit to Fukuoka Eye Clinic in Nakano, where Prof. Auffarth met with Dr. Sachiko Fukuoka for discussions on IOL technologies, the Japanese premium IOL market, and clinical experience with the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL.

Osaka: At the Nishi Eye Hospital, Prof. Auffarth delivered a lecture on advanced IOL selection and the use of JETT® plasma technology in treating dry eye disease, highlighting its role in achieving the best outcomes with multifocals such as the Intensity®. The visit also provided an opportunity for scientific exchange with Dr. Okihiro Nishi and Dr. Yutaro Nishi, covering advances in premium cataract surgery.

The tour continued with a visit to Wada Eye Clinic, where Prof. Auffarth met with Dr. Kaichiro Wada, an experienced Intensity® user, to discuss clinical outcomes and Hanita’s Dynamic Light Utilization technology, developed for maximal light efficiency that brings unprecedented vivid vision to cataract patients.

Tokyo: The Japan tour concluded with an evening symposium in Tokyo focused on the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL and the integration of dry eye diagnostics and treatment into refractive cataract care.

Together with co-speakers Dr. Santaro Noguchi and Dr. Seiichiro Hata, Prof. Auffarth presented discussions on optical design, clinical performance, and comparative experiences with leading premium IOL platforms.

The symposium also highlighted the new paradigm of refractive cataract surgery: the pairing of JETT® and Intensity®, addressing dry eye and ocular surface disease before and after surgery to help patients fully benefit from premium IOL outcomes.

Published in Therapeutic Advances in Ophthalmology, a new 2-year follow-up study confirms that the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL delivers not just strong visual acuity outcomes, but lasting ones, with a remarkably high degree of patient satisfaction after cataract surgery.

The peer-reviewed study from Dr. Germán Bianchi - médico oftalmólogo tracked 60 patients (120 eyes) who underwent bilateral Intensity SL implantation. It found that visual performance remained stable between the 6-month and 24-month evaluations, and the defocus curve was nearly identical at both time points, confirming long-term optical stability.

Key results:
• VF-14 Quality of Life score: 98.6/100
• 97% completely spectacle-free for intermediate vision
• 100% would choose the same treatment again

Strong engagement around refractive cataract surgery at the National Congress of Ophthalmology in Argentina.

Our technologies, including the Intensity® Pentafocal IOL, were featured during the congress, with high interest from the ophthalmic community.

A key highlight was the industry symposium led by Dr. Adrián Artigas, “Principios básicos de Multifocalidad”, which drew a full room and provided an overview of multifocality, including how the Intensity®’s unique pentafocal design—with symmetric foci distribution around the zero order—compares to standard trifocal IOLs in clinical practice.

At the booth, discussions continued in a dedicated listening area, where surgeons had the opportunity to engage directly and address questions.
