AMU ZHCET to Organise Project Expo 2025–26 on May 23

ALIGARH, May 20: Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University, will organise Project Expo ZHCET 2025–26 on May 23 to provide students a platform to showcase innovative ideas, technical skills, research aptitude and entrepreneurial vision.

The exhibition will feature projects from various departments including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Studies. The projects will focus on contemporary areas such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, automation, smart technologies, sustainable development and industrial applications.

Three prizes, first, second and third, will be awarded in each participating department on the basis of originality, technical content, presentation and practical applicability of the projects. The entries will be evaluated by experts from academia and industry.

Principal of ZHCET, Prof. Mohammad Muzammil, said that the exhibition reflects the innovative culture and academic strength of the institution and plays an important role in bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application.

Project Expo InchargeDr. Moina Athar said that the event would provide students with an opportunity to present practical solutions to real-world challenges while enhancing their confidence, teamwork and professional skills.

The event is expected to witness participation from students, faculty members, alumni, researchers, industry representatives and members of the university community.

Dr SheerazKirmani Appointed Member Incharge, Department of Electricity at AMU
ALIGARH, May 12: Dr SheerazKirmani, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University, has been appointed as Member Incharge, Department of Electricity, for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
An academician and researcher in the field of Electrical Engineering, Dr Kirmani has more than 19 years of teaching and research experience in power systems, renewable energy, electric vehicles, smart grids and battery management systems.
He has published over 80 research papers in international journals, presented more than 50 conference papers and contributed chapters to books published by Springer, Elsevier and Taylor & Francis.

AMU’s ZHCET Students Secure Placements in INGSOL LLP Drive
ALIGARH, April 30: Eight final-year students of Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University, have been selected by M/s INGSOL LLP, Noida, during a campus recruitment drive.
The drive was open to B.Tech./B.E. students of all streams except Civil Engineering, as well as MBA students with a B.Tech./B.E. background (excluding Civil Engineering) from the 2026 batch. The selection process comprised an online aptitude test followed by technical and HR interviews.
The selected students are Syed Fawaz Ayazi (Artificial Intelligence), Mohd Kaif (Computer Engineering), Mohd Athar (Electrical Engineering), Divakar Sharma (Mechanical Engineering), Ayan Niyazi (Mechanical Engineering), Sona Parveen (Mechanical Engineering), Adnan Zafar (Mechanical Engineering), and Aliya Rehman (Petroleum Engineering).
A total of 71 students were shortlisted for the drive, out of which eight candidates secured placements with a package of up to ₹6 lakh per annum.
The recruiting team appreciated the quality of students and the academic standards of ZHCET. Prof Mohammad Muzammil, Principal of the college, and Dr Moina Athar, Training and Placement Incharge, congratulated the selected students and wished them success in their professional careers.

AMU Secures ₹72.68 Lakh DRDO Project on Advanced Composite Structures

ALIGARH, April 23: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has secured a new research project worth ₹72.68 lakh funded by the Aeronautics Research and Development Board (AR&DB), DRDO, Government of India, in the area of advanced composite sandwich structures.

The project follows the successful completion of an earlier DRDO-funded study (₹35.5 lakh) on fatigue behaviour in honeycomb core sandwich structures, carried out under the supervision of Dr. Azhar Jamil (Principal Investigator) and Dr. S. M. Yahya (Co-Investigator), Department of Mechanical Engineering, ZHCET. The study contributed to improved understanding of fatigue crack growth and structural reliability in aerospace components and received international recognition, including citation by NASA Langley Research Centre.

Based on the outcomes, the DRDO expert panel recommended extending the research to advanced applications. Subsequently, a new project titled “Fracture Characterisation of GFRP Skin with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and Syntactic Foam Core Sandwich Structures” has been sanctioned.

The project will be led by Dr. Azhar Jamil (PI) with Dr. Yasser Rafat as Co-Principal Investigator, focusing on fracture behaviour of next-generation composite materials used in aerospace and defence systems.

The researchers noted that the study aims to address key challenges in structural performance and contribute to the development of lightweight, high-performance aerostructures.

AMU Faculty Secures DRDO Project on Advanced Composite Materials for Defence Applications

ALIGARH, April 13: Dr.Ateeb Ahmad Khan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been awarded a prestigious research project worth ₹97 lakh by the Armament Research Board (ARMREB) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The project, sanctioned under the Materials for Armament Application (MAA) Panel, will be carried out in collaboration with IIT Roorkee and focuses on the damage assessment of sandwich composite materials used in defence applications.

The research aims to investigate the structural behaviour of sandwich composites under varying conditions, including unaged and hygroscopically aged states, to evaluate their performance in demanding operational environments. The study will examine degradation kinetics and damage evolution under moisture-coupled cyclic loading, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of fatigue performance.

Congratulating Dr. Khan on this achievement, Prof. Raisuddin Ansari, Chairman, Department of Mechanical Engineering, said that the award of such a prestigious DRDO project reflects the department’s strong research capabilities and commitment to high-quality scientific work. He added that the accomplishment would further motivate faculty members and researchers to pursue impactful research in advanced engineering domains.
