Prof. Rashid Ali Appointed Provost, Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall

ALIGARH, August 19: Prof. Rashid Ali, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed Provost, Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall, for a period of two years or until further orders, with effect from August 20, 2026.

Prof. Sheeba Jilani Appointed Chairperson, Department of Chemical Engineering, AMU

ALIGARH, August 12: Prof Sheeba Jilani, Department of Chemical Engineering, Zakir Husain College of Engineering & Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed Chairperson of the department for a period of three years with effect from August 12, 2026.

Prof. Jilani has been associated with the Department of Chemical Engineering since 1990 and has been serving as Professor since October 2020. She completed her B.Sc. in Engineering and M.Sc. in Engineering in Chemical Engineering from AMU and obtained her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from IIT Roorkee in 2010.

She has published more than 25 research papers in journals of national and international repute. Her research interests include modelling and simulation of chemical engineering systems, separation processes and environmental engineering. Her work has covered areas such as methane reforming for syngas and hydrogen production, indoor air quality, industrial pollution, and environmental sustainability.

Prof Jilani has also been associated with major sponsored research projects, including studies on grossly polluting industries in the Ganga Basin under the Namami Ganga Programme, funded by the National Mission for Clean Ganga.She is a Life Member of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and a member of the Institution of Engineers India.

She has held several academic and administrative responsibilities at ZHCET and AMU, including Coordinator for the NBA accreditation of the department's PG programme, Convener of the Curriculum Development Committee and Member of various Boards of Studies. She is serving as Provost, Abdullah Hall.

Prof Abu Tariq Appointed Chairman, Department of Electrical Engineering, AMU

ALIGARH, August 11: Prof Abu Tariq, Department of Electrical Engineering, Zakir Husain College of Engineering & Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed Chairman of the department for a period of three years with effect from August 12, 2026.

Prof Tariq has been associated with the Department of Electrical Engineering since 1990 and has been serving as Professor since January 2016. His research focuses on power electronics and its applications in photovoltaic systems and drives.

He has published research papers in national and international journals and conferences, authored two books and a book chapter, and holds a patent for a “Barefoot Detection Sensor”.

Prof Tariq has also served as Superintendent of Examinations and Warden, and Convener of a workshop on Recent Trends in Power Electronic Converters.

AMU Appoints Prof Syed Javed Ahmad Rizvi as Chairman, Department of Petroleum Studies

ALIGARH, August 10: Prof. Syed Javed Ahmad Rizvi, Department of Petroleum Studies, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed Chairman of the department for a period of three years with effect from August 10, 2026.

Prof Rizvi has over 25 years of combined academic and industrial experience in polymer science, advanced manufacturing and innovation management. He completed his B.Tech. at HBTI Kanpur and M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Technology at IIT Delhi.

He has published 29 SCI/Scopus-indexed research papers, besides book chapters and conference papers. He has also been Principal Investigator of an AMU-Windsor Machines collaborative project worth Rs 2.37 crore and Co-PI of a DST-NIDHI i-TBI project worth Rs 4.93 crore.

Prof. Rizvi holds three Indian granted patents and has another patent application on a Continuous Microwave Reactor. He received the Plasticon National Award in 2015 and has been an invited expert speaker for organisations including IOCL, DRDO and SAIL.

He has also held several academic and institutional responsibilities, including Convener, Intellectual Property Cell; and Director, AMU Innovation Foundation.
