SHPE is a social-technical organization whose primary function is to enhance and achieve the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math, and science. The Missouri S&T SHPE chapter engages in activities that develop its members' leadership skills, professional experience, and activities that increase community involvement in our vision. ty to realize their fullest potential and impacts the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development. Vision SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers. HIstory The SHPE chapter at the Missouri University of Science and Technology was established on February 27, 1992. Twenty-eight students and a faculty advisor, Dr. Mariane Trujillo, founded this chapter through the Student Life Department at the University of Missouri-Rolla, which became Missouri University of Science and Technology on January 1, 2008. In 1998, Dr. Hal Nystrom and Dr. Robin Collier took on the roles of advisor for our chapter. In 2001, Dr. Ronaldo Luna became the SHPE faculty advisor. Walter Bethea and Shannon Cox are currently the advisors. SHPE-Missouri S&T was established as and remains to be the only recognized student organization on campus for Hispanic students.
