From the idea of a ‘people’s car’ to the revolutionary TDI engine , the history of the Volkswagen is studded with highlights that spell ‘innovation’ in everything. Volkswagen India started its operations in 2007. Being another such milestone that combines together the Indian spirit with German engineering. Since the foray into the Indian market, the Volkswagen brand has expanded its portfolio with a series of car launches ranging from best–selling models to legendary brands.
2007: Volkswagen launched the Passat 2008: Volkswagen launched the Jetta. 2009: The globally iconic New Beetle and the high-end SUV Touareg were introduced. 2010: This year witnessed the launch of the Polo and Vento and high end Phaeton. 2011: The all-new Passat, developed with its innovatively engineered BlueMotion Technologies, announced its arrival. 2011: The all-new Jetta TDI was launched. 2012: The Jetta TSI and New generation Touareg were released in the market. 2013: This year, the Polo GT TSI, with an industry-first 7-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) transmission was launched, as also the Cross Polo and Polo GT TDI. In the same year, the TSI engine went on to make history by winning the 'International Engine of the Year' award for the 8th time in a row.
Car launches aside, brand Volkswagen has made a deeper commitment to innovations since its entry into the Indian market. From the Electronic Stabilisation Programme to the 12-way adjustable seats in the Passat or the Bi-xenon cornering headlights in the Phaeton, you will find something innovative in every car.
Volkswagen also introduced the initiative of ‘Think Blue’. A program that intends to make brand Volkswagen the world’s most ecologically sustainable car manufacturer. From a host of automotive technologies to simple everyday ideas, ‘Think Blue’ engages the brand into making cars that are not only effective but indeed designed to make an environmental difference.
