VCI Masterbatch: Corrosion Out, Confidence In
We arrived at the export dock around 6 a.m. New corrosion on precision shafts. One return from Kandla Port, two reworks this week. CORROSION steals quality, not slides!
The People
Marine Machinery Parts production manager. We sent our applications engineer. Customer QA Manager was nervous too! “We can’t keep oiling parts and praying,” stated the production manager.
The Issue
Intermittent rust after 10–20 days in transit; cleaning, rework, delays. Low quality costs roughly ₹3 lacs each month! Two shipments delayed!
Our Proactive Method
We walked the warehouse and line, verified part geometry, metal type, and burrs. Recorded humidity cycles, transit time, and venting. Reviewed film gauge, sealing, and line temperatures. We eliminated salts and water spots. Oils and desiccants helped but increased work, mess, and variability. Our recommendation, polymer film VCI with packaging protection!

How VCI polymer additives work
Volatile corrosion inhibitor. Inside the packing headspace, its vapour molecules form a monomolecular layer on metal. That coating inhibits rusting. Embed VCI into film or endcaps for consistent release—no missed sachets or shifting positions.
Sealed film protection: how long?
The film gauge, metal mass, and atmosphere determine protection duration. In sealed packs, allow 6 months for validation. Check your own testing. Konspec offers one of India's best NABL-accredited polymers testing labs (SSG) to help you!
The ADDKON Solution
For this issue, we chose Addkon VCI 2066 for blown film liners. Our national treasures are protected by our in-house innovation! In conventional blown-film circumstances, use 3-5% masterbatch let down for even dispersion!

Trial run → Validate in real storage and transportation conditions → 72-hour humidity exposure, shipment simulation, and acceptance criteria with marine parts assembly QA.
Rework hours drop 90% and corrosion claims drop 0% after 500 hours of SST. Changeovers are 100% faster. Removal or reduction of oiling reduced cleaning time and smell. Checked out all prerequisites!
