🎯 Talk Title: Multi-mode (radar-radiometer) Sensing for Security Applications: Improved Characterization of Hidden Dielectric Layers
As global security threats evolve, the need for reliable high-frequency sensors to detect contraband has never been greater. This talk explores a noninvasive, multi-mode approach combining active radar and passive radiometer sensing in the K-band (18-26 GHz).

Key takeaways from the session include:
Real-time Characterization: Extracting complex permittivity and thickness of hidden dielectrics at standoff distances with 5% accuracy.
Advanced Calibration: Techniques to mitigate RF front-end distortions, temperature-dependent losses, and background noise in indoor environments.

Dr. Arya Menon is an Assistant Professor at TAMU. She earned her Ph.D. from Oregon State University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at TAMU in 2023. Her award-winning research includes:
2022 DARPA Riser for Bioinspired Hardware-Software Co-Design.
2019 IEEE MTT-S Graduate Fellowship.
2018 Provost’s Award for Outstanding Teaching in STEM.
Her current work focuses on bio-inspired intelligence in radar design, sensor fusion, and dielectric characterization methods.

As wireless communication pushes toward Millimeter Wave (mmWave) and Terahertz (THz) frequencies, device miniaturization and integration are more critical than ever. This talk will explore the Grid Array Antenna (GAA)—a design that simplifies feeding structures and reduces electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues. Dr. Zhang will discuss the evolution of GAA and its application in Antenna-in-Package (AiP) technology using materials like LTCC and LCP.
🗣 About the Speaker: Dr. Bing Zhang is a Professor at the College of Electronics and Information Engineering, Chengdu, China. With a Ph.D. from Nanyang Technological University and research experience at Chalmers University of Technology and the National University of Singapore, he is a recognized expert in 3D-printed antennas and AiP technology. 🎯 Talk Title: The future is wireless! Technological Innovations in MW Front-Ends.
The session explored the technological challenges of 5G and the future of microwave front-end devices. With an estimated 500 billion devices connecting wirelessly by 2030, Prof. Bösch highlighted the critical need for higher integration, miniaturization, and reduced power consumption. Key takeaways included innovative designs like "filtennas" (antennas with integrated filtering), the utilization of metamaterials, novel calibration methodologies, and the heterogeneous integration of GaN devices.

🗣 About the Speaker: Dr. Chung-Tse Michael Wu is an Associate Professor at NTU. With a Ph.D. from UCLA and a rich academic background at Wayne State and Rutgers University, his pioneering research spans applied electromagnetics, antennas, RF systems, and metamaterials. He is a recipient of several prestigious honors, including the NSF CAREER Award and the DARPA Young Faculty Award, and serves as an Associate Editor for multiple leading IEEE journals.

📢 Event Recap: 2-Day Hands-On Workshop on Keysight ADS & SystemVue

The IEEE AP-MTTS Student Branch Chapter, IIT Kharagpur, in collaboration with Keysight Technologies and Infinipoint Technologies, successfully organized a 2-day hands-on workshop on Keysight ADS and SystemVue on 3rd–4th September 2025.

The workshop featured in-depth sessions led by Shubham Kumar Tiwary (Design Engineer – HF, Infinipoint Technologies, Bangalore) and Dr. Rahul Dubey (Application Engineer, Infinipoint Technologies, Ahmedabad), who shared their expertise in RFIC, MMIC, MIC, antenna design, and system-level RF simulation.

🔹 Day 1 (Sept 3, 2025): Keysight ADS by Shubham Kumar Tiwary
Participants explored Keysight EDA tools with practical insights into RFPro, filter EM simulation with cavity box, passive component design, and multi-technology packaging using ADS.

🔹 Day 2 (Sept 4, 2025): Keysight SystemVue by Dr. Rahul Dubey
Dr. Dubey introduced SystemVue for advanced RF system design and simulation. The sessions covered communication link design, RF system & antenna array modeling, and research opportunities in phased-array systems, SATCOM, and AI-assisted radar imaging.

The workshop provided participants with valuable hands-on experience in modern RF/microwave design and system-level simulations, bridging academic knowledge with real-world applications in defense, aerospace, and communications.
