𝟭𝟱𝟬 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘀 – 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻
There is growing confusion around the “150 free units” being discussed in Rajasthan after installation of a 1.1 kW rooftop solar system with ₹17,000 additional subsidy.
👉 As per our understanding, this works exactly the 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗠 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘆𝗮 𝗚𝗵𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝗳𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗷𝗹𝗶 𝗬𝗼𝗷𝗮𝗻𝗮, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘀.
💡 In reality, the units are not “free electricity from Discom”.
When a consumer installs a 𝟯 𝗸𝗪 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 ~𝟯𝟬𝟬 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀. These units are “free” because:
They are self-generated
The Government supports this through capital subsidy
📌 Similarly in Rajasthan, the ₹𝟭𝟳,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗶𝗱𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝟭.𝟭 𝗸𝗪 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺, from which a consumer can generate approximately 150 units per month.
👉 𝟭.𝟭 𝗸𝗪 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 = ₹𝟭𝟳,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗶𝗱𝘆 = ~𝟭𝟱𝟬 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘀
There are no free units as such—the benefit comes from own generation, supported by subsidy.
🔔 To avoid misinformation, consumer dissatisfaction, and field-level confusion, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 so that:
Consumers have correct expectations
Vendors communicate responsibly
The scheme continues to build trust
Clear communication = Faster adoption = Stronger rooftop solar ecosystem
