🌍Last week, Mattia Balestra, post-doc researcher from our Lab GAP Geomatics Applications & Processing at the Univpm Università Politecnica delle Marche, took part in the European Geosciences Union - EGU General Assembly 2026 in Vienna.
Mattia contributed to one of the largest sessions of the conference as co-convener of “Remote Sensing for forest applications,” which drew 70 submitted abstracts and was organized into 5 oral blocks, bringing together researchers from across the international forest remote sensing community.
During the conference, he also presented the poster:
📌 “Leaf-on and leaf-off UAV LiDAR data for stand structure classification of Apennine beech forests”.
The work explores the integration of UAV LiDAR data and machine learning approaches for analyzing forest structure and supporting the classification of different beech forest management conditions in Central Italy 🌲🛰️
Beyond its scientific contributions, EGU continues to offer an important opportunity for discussion, networking, and international collaboration within the geoscience community.
