With deep sadness, the Mars Planet Technologies community joins the international space sector in mourning the passing of Dr. Thais Russomano, a true pioneer and an irreplaceable reference point in medical research for space exploration.

A physician, researcher, and co-founder of the Microgravity Centre at PUCRS in Brazil, Dr. Russomano dedicated her career to investigating the effects of microgravity on the human body, paving the way for crucial health protocols for future astronauts.

On several occasions, we had the honor of discussing and evaluating potential scientific collaborations with her. Beyond being an extraordinary scientist with an immense academic legacy, Thais was, above all, a wonderful, generous person driven by an infectious passion for space.

We wish to remember her through this photo, taken during one of her visits to our facilities a moment of shared vision that we hold today with deep gratitude.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, colleagues, and the entire space community. Her vision will continue to guide the future of space medicine. 🚀✨

Europe’s road to Mars is being built together.

We’re pleased to share the first newsletter of the European Mars Societies. Prepared by the French chapter, Association Planète Mars, it brings together contributions from Austria, Belgium, France, Italy and Switzerland.

From Mars analogue missions and space medicine to mission architectures and ideas for living around Mars, this first edition shows what our European network can achieve together. It also presents Belgium’s proposal for a future European Mars Convention.

On 29 September 2026, the European Mars Society chapters will come together for a new Europe2Mars live roundtable:

THE INDUSTRIAL CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF MARS Space Exploration

Our featured guests will be two experts from the European Space Agency – ESA:

Dr Orson Sutherland — Programme Manager for Mars Exploration
Dr Colin Wilson — Planetary Scientist, Mars Express & ExoMars TGO

They will be joined by six Mars Society chapter leaders:

The final resting place of SpaceX's moon-smashing rocket has been found.
South Korea's Danuri lunar orbiter (KARI) successfully captured imagery of the crater blasted out by the Falcon 9 upper stage. Danuri began observing 30 minutes before the collision, conducting 8 imaging sessions.
Scientists now have rare pre-and-post collision footage to analyze terrain changes and ejecta spread.

No bad luck for SpaceX!
Late Friday, the world's most powerful rocket lifted off from South Texas for its historic Flight 13 test mission. While it successfully launched next-gen Starlink satellites, the real surprise happened in the Indian Ocean.
Instead of a hard impact, Starship achieved its softest splashdown ever. The spacecraft is completely intact, floating belly up, and still transmitting data back to Earth!

HISTORIC MILESTONE IN THE NEW SPACE ECONOMY: INDIA CONQUERS PRIVATE ORBITAL SPACEFLIGHT!

On Saturday, July 18, 2026, Indian aerospace startup Skyroot Aerospace successfully aced the debut launch of its Vikram-1 rocket, deploying its payload into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) during the "Vikram-1 Aagaman" mission.This is a structural shift in global space geopolitics: with this successful flight, India officially becomes just the third nation on Earth, following the United States and China, to possess a proven, private commercial orbital launch capability.The 4-stage, seven-story-tall Vikram-1 rocket is specifically engineered for the small-satellite market, capable of hauling up to 350 kilograms (770 pounds) to LEO. The democratization of orbit relies on these agile, cost-effective architectures. They are crucial for accelerating the infrastructure density needed for the next generation of space exploration and future planetary settlements.
