CASE STUDY: Surf Village | Bradley Beach, NJ
I was approached with the opportunity to help transform this forgotten property in Bradley Beach into nine Airbnb cottages.
Living in Bradley Beach, I had driven past these bungalows countless times, but never really understood who lived there or the conditions they were living in. Over the years, the buildings had been heavily neglected, but underneath it all was a property with incredible character and history.
My team and I immediately became interested in the challenge, and in early 2022, the transformation began.
As construction started, we got to know many of the residents, and one of the most rewarding parts of this project was helping people transition into healthier and better living environments. As units became available, the pace of the project completely changed.
What was originally planned as a three-year redevelopment suddenly became an 18-month sprint, with the goal of having half the units ready by Memorial Day weekend of 2023.
We opened walls, redesigned kitchens and bathrooms, and created open-concept layouts inside these unique cottages — rumored to have been built decades ago by a wealthy businessman whose family loved hunting at Shark River Park and spending summers at the beach.
We always wondered why these small bungalows had oversized stone fireplaces and massive dining rooms… but over time, the vision started to make sense.
18 months later…115 inspections.24 dumpsters.Countless sketches and redesigns.And six, sometimes seven-day work weeks.
Today, Bradley Surf Village stands as one of the most unique transformations we’ve ever completed.
And this Memorial Day weekend, I’ll probably drive by, slow down for a second… and still wonder how we pulled it off. Big thanks to the designers and architects that jumped in board to make this property one of the coolest places to hang in the summer !
