HyCO refers to hydrogen production integrated with carbon capture, sequestration, and storage. In this process, hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels, but the system is modified to capture the carbon dioxide (CO₂) generated. The CO₂ is separated as a pure stream, then dried, compressed, and transported for secure storage.

This hydrogen is designated ‘blue hydrogen’, where 50-95% of the CO2 that would be produced can be captured, and reused as a sustainable process.
