The Nairobi- Mombasa Expressway project was initiated in September 2016 as part of Kenya’s Vision 2030.

The PPP project will run from Machakos Turn-Off to Mariakani (482) kilometers as a four-Lane beside the existing two lane carriageway and will include interchanges and bypasses in the key towns along Mombasa Road, with a special focus on the konza techno City.

The expressway will be designed for consistent speeds of 120 KM/H.
